My car should be done getting painted on Thursday of this week and I should get my new tires, my wheels and my coilovers put on this weekend so I'll be ready for anytime. Also, I was curious if any one knew of a good shop where I could corner balance my car.

I have a question though. I'm trying to figure out what class my car would be in. I have a catback exhaust, coilovers, sways, cross drilled/slotted rotors ceramic pads, 18x9.5rims with 265 Falken Azenis tires and I have no clue as to what class I'd be put in according to the list given at that site by Jrex.

Forgive me if any/all of this is completely wrong, but:

1. If those are the only modifications you have to your "stock" car
2. The tires are 200 treadwear rating (based off of http://www.falkentire.com/Tires/Pass...nis-RT-615K-14
which is above 140 but are advertised as "competition" tires)
3. It’s your first time racing there

So from what I can see:

RX-8 as of 2009 is considered in the C class

Your car is considered Stock, or S class (unless you modified the mounting of your suspension to other than the stock locations, which I can't see any reason to have been done). Those modifications you listed don’t really put your car anywhere above the stock class. (according to the rules)
(This is where it gets a little confusing to me, because due to our 4 seater, it looks like we can also run in the STX class by manufacturer designation, but that would also allow a little more wiggle room with modifications and allows higher displacement NA's and SC/TC engines, so why would you want to??? Maybe you run multiple classes at once gaining points in all classes that your vehicle fits in???)

This is your first time racing so you would be a First Timer (after which you would move to the Rookie Class for the first year), or -R class. This is for gaining points in the Rookie class categories. I think you can run open class whenever you want AFTER your first official race, but those points don't count for the Rookie Class standings. Also it says "Participation in the Rookie School disqualifies a driver for First-Timer class" so take that into consideration.

Also since your tires are considered Street Legal Motorsports and DOT Approved Track Competition Tires (see #2 above), that bumps you out of the -ST (Street Tire) class. (based on my interpretation of FCSCC rules; -ST class states "Prohibited (not allowed in -ST class) tires include all competition models and any tire with a treadwear index less than 140)

So, with all that information, I would guess you would run in either

CS-R or CSTX-R

Another example to put things into perspective (based on what MY car class would be, and again my interpretation of what the rules/classes are)

I would be put into the

CSP-ST-R or CSTX-ST-R

SP class (Street Prepared) due only to the fact I'm running a catless midpipe, and -ST (Street Tire) cause I've got street tires. S (Stock) class allows catback exhaust mods, anything further up puts you in the very least SP (Street Prepared). Noise regulations DO have to be followed though. (So I may not even be able to run dependent on how strict they are on exhaust sound levels, but I highly doubt mine will be a problem)

See - "All vehicles must be muffled, with a maximum sound-level of 90 dba at 75 feet. Event sound levels may be reduced by the event chair and/or club officers dependent upon requirements of the event site. After one warning, disqualification may result. Final judgment rests on acceptability of sound levels, regardless of measured sound level, and is based on evaluation of the sound's impact on the event environment and rests with the Event Chair or other FCSCC officer."

Hope this helps, or in the very least will make someone smarter than me jump in here and tell us everything wrong about what I’ve stated.

FYI- that list is actually out of date. RX8 is C stock now. But they'll let you change it at registration if you put the wrong one. They usually have someone from SCCA there.

oh sweet, thanks for the clarification guys I really appreciate it. I used to autoX with CartCT last year and I was in a Novice C class which wasn't explained to me very well so this helps. Any one know where I can get my car corner balanced? I can't wait until the 18th now. I wasn't able to make it to any meets last year due to car issues but I'm looking forward to seeing new 8 owners.

Yeah figured it might have changed, the list I was using was from 08 or 09 . I'll edit my post.

Still a little confused about STX class??? Are we just Stock and the modded classes, or do we also have the STX class to compette in??

(Thinking we just need to get the ball rolling, but still taking suggestions)

Let's see if we can get a meet next week. I'm thinking somewhere in Middletown to start (center of the state). Either Wednesday the 14th around 7-8pm, or anytime Saturday the 17th.

Let's start the list, see if we actually get some people.
(name/which day)
1. J-Rex, either day
2. jadam511 (the F.O.G.), either day (prefer Wed. though)
3.
4.
5.

Bernie, let's get get this goin, haven't seen you since the first meet.

Autocross Event - April 18th

I'm playing catch up here, so bear with me....

I am interested in doing the autocross but have a few questions....

Is the FCSCC group an independent organization or are the a sub-group of SCCA, PDA, etc?

I am a past member of SCCA and PDA so I assume I can run in the Rookie class since it's been a couple of years?

My RX-8 is completely stock and I am running crappy all season tires so I qualify for the stock class, correct?

I looked over their web site but didn't find a lot of information concerning vehicle tech inspections or other requirements (ie, car numbering, helments or other saftery requirements), is there an online resource?

And finally, since I've never autocrossed an RX-8, does everyone disable the traction control? I've raced a Ford Probe and all wheel drive Subi STi WRX so I'm not sure what to expect from the 8 in terms of handling...

Thanks for any info,

Joe (jadam511) aka (The F.O.G!)

Yes it has been a long time......it sucked that a week after we all met up my company shipped me upstate NY for 6 months.

But as long as we can get together Sat 17th afternoon/evening we can start this year off right. And hopefuly by summertime we'll have a large crew/club coming each week

Anyone coming out to the Bear Mountain meet on the 18th? I'm meeting up with people in Stamford at the Merritt Parkway exit 35 High Ridge Road commuter lot at 9:30am.

John - FCSCC Autocross in Stratford is the 18th, so I'm out, definitely would be interested in future meets though.

Joe - I just noticed I didn't answer all your questions. As far as safetey inspection goes, as long as your car is safe you should be fine. No bungies holding the battery down, some tire left, etc. You also have to completely empty your car (floormats included), but most people do that there. As far as helmets go, if you have a Snell 2000 rated helmet bring it, if not they do have loaners (I still have to use the loaners)

I'm going to the Stratford AutoX on the 18th also, so unfortunately I won't be able to make the Bear Mt. meet, but would love to in the future. Do we have a set place as of yet?

BTW, my name is Kumar....let the Whitecastle jokes out now. I got tired of them too quickly.

No problem, so the rules are pretty much the same as SCCA. I have a helmet so that's not an issue... Just will have to lean the seat way back so my head will clear the roof...

Thanks,
Joe
