Dropping the clutch
Watsup everyone, 2 weeks ago i bought a gray 04 rx-8. It is my first manual car and ive started to race some kids at school. I've beaten some shitty civics and an audi a6, but i cant beat this wrx. Can anyone explain to me how to drop the clutch successfully?

You guys are being harsh on him about the rules - he didn't post any street racing stories. He just said he beat a few cars, but wanted help on dropping the clutch.
That said, he is not going to help the image of the Rx-8 by what he's doing... and his transmission isn't going to last very long either.
Only way the OP is going to beat the wrx is by luck or by getting a FI kit.

a plain jane wrx should be a drivers race but an sti is where FI comes into play.....if you cant beat a plain wrx then take some drivers courses and learn your car better

ah see, I wouldn't know a wrx from a sti, from a chevy cavalier.. I just figured he was talking about something with 250 whp and awd.

well seeing as how standard plain wrxs were making it to 60 in like 5.5 in 2001 and they now run with better torque and more hp and he has a modded one i'd say you have no chance no matter what.

well all wrx's are FI and even if he spent like 50bux on a manual boost controller he would own you. AWD is nice but if you hope and pray really hard he'll prolly blow 2nd gear or 1st if he launches hard. they are very glass like. junk synchros

I'm getting sick of reading posts about how not to drive.... Don't race, don't speed, don't drive without a seat belt, don't pop your clutch...
I figured in the NE forum we would be okay with a bit of playin'.
BTW 04rx-8gray... Press and hold your DSC button untill you see two lights up on your dash. This will disable your traction control and dynamic stability control. You will inturn have complete control over your car during launching. Depending on the road conditions I will launch at different revs. In my experience on a street with a bit of loose debris launching from 5000 gives me better control of my traction. At the strip with clean and sticky lanes I'll rev to 6500. I always maintain gas position and modulate with my clutch. You can do the opposite but the risk of dropping revs in the 8 can be a painful loss.
Once you hook up be sure to floor it to the metal in one violent motion. As you approach the shift point near 9000 rpm preload your shift **** by applying pressure in the direction of your next shift (2nd). Because the transmission has a lot of torque (Rx8 super torque!) being applied to it it won't shift even if you apply around 10 pounds of force on the shift ****.
Upon shifting, kick that clutch fast and hard. The moment you do, your preloaded shift **** with pop into the direction of your preload. As the clutch rises catch it at the friction point as you may have to modulate the clutch to catch and control your wheel spin. Only let off the gas 90% and then floor it again as you pass through the friction point of the clutch (again I'm choosing to modulate my clutch rather than my gas). Shifting to third will be easier as the chances of you getting dangerous/out of control wheel spin in lessened (at least if you're in an 8 and it's NA).
So even by the description, you can see that it's very rough on your car. But doing this kinda stuff once in a while is why it's fun to think with your ***** and why it's fun to own a car. Just don't be racing on my street or in front of any skools! Everyone knows an industrial area with no traffic. Have fun in a safe way and I don't see why you should get flamed for fooling around with your buddies. Car culture has been like this for decades..... I don't see why a bunch of ol'8 drivers have to change that.
I'm gonna have to start talking driving tech on the forums more often:
Heel-Toe.
Bump Steer.
Scandinavian Flick.
Left-Foot Braking.
Rev match down shift.
Power over slide.
Clucth Kick.
Launching.
Braking.
You know all that reckless stuff that you can't really do at slow safe speeds... LOL
