And I see that I am not the only one who has(well, had now) the OEM splash guards.
I have those too; I think they look rather unobtrusive while definitely protecting the car from splatters and at least some dings from road junk.
And back on the original topic, my 8 really could stand a thorough hand washing. It's been a while! I'm glad to see some other folks in NE still have their 8s and are still keeping them in good condition. It used to be that I could drive down Rt. 3 and end up next to another RX-8 once in a while. Now, it's been years since I saw another one in person no matter what car I'm driving. It's starting to feel lonely out there!
It's hilarious - most of my neighbors don't wash their cars anymore at home...a trend I've seen "fall off the map". I think washing a car is like doing an oil change - it's a critical change to look over your car and check for obvious issues (oil dripping, coolant leaks, exterior rust, ...).

I wipe my windows and interior down from time to time, but depending on where I live, an exterior wash and detail isn't worth it IMO.
In Victoria, BC summer, it makes some sense to give the car a good scrub. In Fort Mac, AB summer? Forget about it, your car will be covered in light dirt in 10 seconds. Not worth the effort IMO.
when I asked where the car wash hose spigot was here at the apartment for washing my car they looked at me like I was an alien from another solar system
yet we have a fancy pet wash room with blow dryer etc. I must say it works pretty good for washing down and drying my mountain bike . Like most pet owners though, they are the messiest bunch never cleaning up the mess they made or even caring. Ugh, hate to think how they live, though I tend to shed hair like a dog myself if I’m not wearing a shirt or pants 😂
