Friend has 8, needs help finding good service department

whats up guys. I don't own an rx8 but my friend does. His tranny is all messed up, it grinds when shifting into certain gears (for months now) and i believe as of lately hasn't been going into 5th and 6th. Sorry i don't have the specifics, I believe he has around 50k miles. He never launched the car, or tracked/raced it for that matter. He's having trouble getting warranty work done at his dealer. Do you guys have any recommendations for any good service departments or techs up here in the tri-state area? It's much appreciated!

What year is his car?

My buddy also had grinding and so I had him try the following cause I wasn't exactly convinced that it was the transmission...

Start the car, either let it warm up or just drive like normal..

Push in the clutch, put it into first and HOLD THE CLUTCH IN.

Now rev the motor all the way to redline, if the car lurches foward at all, the clutch is not fully disengaging, which could be the clutch line inbetween the master and slave cylinder, expanding...

If you are mechanically inclined at all, then you can get a stainless steel braided clutch line for 20 bucks...

EDIT: Sorry I didn't see that you said it was not going into 5th or 6th, I thought you said was grinding into 5th and 6th...

Well if he is in the warranty he should have no problem but if he is out of warranty be prepared to spend some cash.

I worked with a former wayne mazda tech. If he wasnt lying, and by what you say he wasnt, then they have a good core of techs.

All I can say is if youre in NY, Yonkers area avoid that dealer if you can. I along with the guy i mentioned above were the ones that pretty much did the headache work. I was the go to guy due to the rotary experience. Needless to say we both left. too much bull...not enough $$$.

I don know if you can come to MA or not ... but

Gallo mazda !! Find service guy "Elvis"

He's very friendly and the engineers behind him are pretty awesome...

I brought my car for rattling at engine idle, they caught at once and found two other

problems that I never noticed. also, he covers with warranty(even though i caused the problems lol)

if you get to go there tell elvis that "Alex lee" sent him haha

My dealership, Irwin Mazda in Freehold hasn't given me any problems yet so I recommend them.
