Good rotary mechanic in Central VA?
I'm looking for some recommendations on a good rotary mechanic or shop around Central VA. I've got an issue with hot starts that is much more prominent with the BHR Yukon coils versus the OEMs. When I had the local shop look at it here they just put my stock coils back in and replaced my fuel pump citing more than average fuel pressure drops after extended drives. As far as I can tell the problem is gone when using the stock coils, but it happens 100% of the time with the Yukons. After speaking to BHR about the issue they had this issue with a few other customers, and one of them found a worn metering pump rod in the OMP, which resulted in low compression. Charles was also kind enough to send another set of wires to try, which didn't help. I even changed the ignition dwell with the AP with no success. This is over my head, so I wanted a shop or someone with more experience to look at this. Anyone have any recommendations? I would think a lot of dealers would turn down this type of request given it starts properly in stock config.

The master mechanic at Lynchburg Mazda is always interested in challenges jujo, maybe you should take a ride down 29S and let him take a look. There was also a pretty good rotary mechanic around Waynesboro I'm told (by another 7club member). I'll have to research to find the name though.
Either way, you should join our group drives sometime. We hit the Devil's Backbone Restaurant in Wintergreen regularly.

Ah, the Dragon trip. Don't say "no" too fast, it's the best trip you'll ever take in your RX-8 for sure.
Tell David the service manager that I referred you to them, they work very well with our club.

That does look like one hell of a drive. I'll think about it.
I called down there yesterday and got an appointment Aug 3rd. I'm excited I might be able to finally find what the issue is -- after replacing the fuel filter, battery, plugs, wires and seafoaming I'm a little worried. Hopefully the tech can sort this out.
One question for you: Know if there's anything to do in walking distance? I'll be stuck down there probably most of the day

Yeah, there are several small shopping centers within walking distance. They are also very good about giving you a ride somewhere. If you want to hit the mall for a while, they'll take you there. If you decide to catch the mall, I should be able to get you back over to the dealer in the afternoon (I'm currently working there).

Sweet. Thanks for the offer. I see Peaks View park has a disc golf course there that isn't more than a couple miles from the dealer -- I think I can kill a good part of the day there.

Got my car back yesterday. They put in a new starter (shocker!! ) Flow Mazda just told me it was "within spec" and wouldn't replace it. Lynchburg didn't beat around the bush here, threw a new starter in, and also did the TSB for loss of power (decarb + new plugs). Car runs great. Problems starting are gone for now. Thanks again bud. +1 for Lynchburg Mazda.
