Greddy in Va/MD

I am thinking about getting the Greddy turbo, but it's difficult to drop $4k when I've never actually seen the kit, or what it can do. I would love to check out an RX8 in northern VA or Maryland with the Greddy turbo. I would be happy to pay for lunch one day for the opportunity to check one out in person. If anyone has some spare time and wouldn't mind, reply or PM me.

Couple of turbo's at MSCW

Jeff Abrams and Broke Apex Seal have turboed 8's and I've seen 'em at the MSCW meetings.

I was fortunate enough to ride along in Broke Apex Seal's car. That thing is fast ! I'd like that kind of power, but I think I'm gonna wait to see who gets the engine management issues sorted out first.

turbo vs warrenty

Well it does bother me that I wil be giving up my warrenty, it is nice to have. But I really need me car to be faster. I can't take it knowing that my G/F V-6 Tiburon that she paid 14k less for is faster than my Rx8. So it will be worth it. Plus I figure, most likely if anything is going to go wrong, it will happen after the car is out of warrenty anyway!

If you want to, stop by my garage and you can see our 8. I cant drive it anywhere because the exhaust manifold is cracked but you can atleast see the setup. Im in centreville va. Send me a PM if you want.

I guess after 8 hours of driving with over 300 WHP is a little much for this manifold.

Is broke apex seal just running a Greddy turbo with stock map? I've heard now a couple of times that his car is really fast. I didn't expect to get that much out of just the Greddy turbo, so I would be very surprised if so many people where that impressed with it. In fact I've been waiting for the PTP kit to come out just because I didn't think the Greddy kit would give me what I wanted.

So either
1 Maybe I underestimated what kind of improvements the Greddy will give.
2 People are just noting that it is faster than stock, but that does not mean that in the grand scheme of things it is that fast.
3 He has other things done.

So which is it?

I dont know what he has done to his car...but we have other mods done and we are also running at a higher PSI than him and few other people out there with the same kit.

WE just took off the manifold last night to look at it and nothing was wrong.... it was our cat to the down pipe that sprung a leak...the cat craked around the bolts connect to the down pipe....hmmmm

I would go with the Greddy kit... its worth the money thats for sure!

He is running the Greddy turbo with one of my MAPs for the E-Manage.
He recently added the Profec E-01 boost controller, so he may be running a bit more boost now.

Is your map just a different tune for those RX8's who didn't respond well to the Greddy map? Or is your tune more aggressive and producing more HP?

I fixed some of the rich spots and, more importantly, I tune for the removal of the open-loop dongle.
That little black box is the cause of most people's problems with the kit.

Mazda meeting wed.

I'm thinking I'm going to play hooky and skip class on wed to go to the Mazda meeting in Tyson's. I really want to check out a turbo RX8! Just wondering who else is planning to go?

are you driving an AUTO?
i'm scared to go back and look... but Tib v-6 is faster than your 8?!?!?

i've ran with plenty of tib's and none of them even came close... they were all v-6's and stick as well...

Manual tranny. I can't say for sure that the Tib is faster, we haven't raced. Were going to go to the track soon so I'll settle it once and for all. But, I am a little worried. Hers definitly seems to pull harder and has more torque (188ft-lbs).

Are they strict about having to be a member of the club to attend?

Its a free-for-all since it is really just a social gathering.
You can join while you are there, if you like. We get pretty significant discounts at some local Mazda dealerships on parts.
