Then I suggest you take several lessens.

Take as many lessons as you are willing to pay for. I would aim for over 4 or more. And then do what I suggested about having a friend drive you to a parking lot.

You will want to organize with him or her to do this for a week or two.

It's worth it. Manual is fun, it's almost like learning to drive again.

Since you have never driven manual taking a class will give you an idea of what's involved and if you want to continue.

Also, I think I also paid $75 per class.

Listen to the mob Streak.
I bought an AT because I found an incredible deal and drive in traffic almost all the time. Had driven boring *** cars for years. Once your in the 8 for a few weeks, you will want the MT. The moc options, the maintanence, the feel are better.
I didn't make a bad decision because I got an 8 at a price I can flip it for an MT, and am looking. But leaning MT when I did it took 15 mins, and a couple weeks of practice to get smooth.

Just don't make your decisions based on being nervous about the tranny. Sometimes to man up, you have to be willing to look silly learning something. (Just pick it up at closing time and you can learn it in the dealer parking lot - its really that easy)

Ew, I'll lose so much respect for you if you "settle" for the AT just because you've never driven a stick before.

It's really not that hard. Just left off the clutch slowly as you're pushing in the gas when in first, for every other gear, I usually shift around 3,500-4,000rpms, depending on the driving I'm doing. Sometimes I shift at 6,500-7,000rpms

Although, I would suggest staying away from any red lights/stop signs on hills until you can shift well enough to not stall out or roll back too much.

buy the damn MT. i learned to drive a stick when i was 14 on the most unforgiving, heavy, stiff clutch a truck has ever seen. it took a couple weeks of regular driving to get it down really good, but i had the hang enough to get around after an hour or so. you'll be SUPER dissapointed if you buy the AT, cause one day you'll learn to drive a stick and you'll ride in a MT 8 and get depressed at owning the AT

I would also suggest getting the MT.

Let us know what you end up doing.

Lol wow if you were a chick this would have been solved 2.5 pages ago. I'm replacing my clutch next weekend if i was in New Jersey (currently in New Orleans) i would let you beat on my worn up clutch/pp, sorry I can't help, don't settle for the AT.

I taught a girl I knew to drive stick in my 91 celica GT (the same car I learned in...). She was kinda slow, so it took her a few days to grasp the basics...

Before I got my first stick, I had a general idea of what was required because I read about it for a little while. But as we all know, knowing and doing are 2 different things. So driving it home was an adventure, but I made it without much incident. Beyond that, as others have said, it was just a matter of doing it until it became natural...

Get the manual. If you don't, I'm 100% certain that you will kick urself later.

Don't buy the AT.

As for you 'not in my 8' guys, you crack me up. Lol. Most 8's these days a worth less than a good used Camry. I taught my 16 year old son to drive a MT in my 650hp GT500 before we picked up his R3 That GT500 has a twin disk clutch that is freaking horrible to drive smooth and it still only took a couple hours starting in an empty Bealls parking lot then onto the street.

Yeah, he killed it a few times. He didn't hurt anything. They're just cars. Hell if I were there I'd teach the poor guy to drive a stick.

Good luck OP, get the manual, you'll regret it if you don't.

Theres a reason why AT to MT threads on this forum exist, and not MT to AT..

It was 5 years ago. I don't think anyone needs help.

I did this today... I seriously slammed on the edge of the brake pedal on accident, on a busy street. I was so freaking embarrassed. I need to like sit on my left foot while I drive...or just not be a stupid *** and pay attention.
