High-Speed Drivers’ Education - September 9-10

The Shenandoah Circuit at Summit Point Motorsports Park, Summit Point, WV (one hour west of Washington, DC) features an incredible 20+ turns with significant elevation changes, a dimensional replica of Der Nurburgring at 20 deg banking, negative camber changes incorporated with decreasing radius corners positioned on vertical drops. A technical track that is a blast to drive, especially if it’s your first time out. Participants that have driven the Shenandoah Circuit have enjoyed themselves immensely, literally a roller coaster road course. For experienced drivers and those wanting a challenge; the Shenandoah is a track that will take years to master. An excellent track for fine tuning your trail braking skills.

MazdaDriverS.com events feature:
-- Two-day High-Speed Drivers Education (Saturday & Sunday)
-- Drive your own vehicle at speed in a safe controlled environment
-- High-Caliber Instructors assigned to students for on-course sessions
-- Professional Classroom instruction
-- Run groups and Classroom sessions tailored to experience levels
-- Eight 26 minute sessions for the weekend
-- Skid Pad instruction/sessions
-- Most students qualify for solo driving after demonstrating basic safety skills and appropriate on-course behavior
-- Registration is available for both Mazda and non-Mazda vehicle owners

Photos, videos of MazdaDriverS participants enjoying themselves at past events are online. Registration is ongoing for the September event. Typically, the events sell out in advance. Visit

www.MazdaDriverS.com for details and online registration.

Dave Nugent

Summit Point Motorsports Park is 70 miles west of Washington, DC, just east of Winchester, VA. Or 15 minutes east of I-81 off RT 7. Directions posted at www.MazdaDriverS.com

Participants are scheduled to receive eight 26-27 minute on-track sessions, skid pad time, plus in-car assigned instructors, classroom and skid pad instruction. Approximately, 212 minutes or 3.5 hours of scheduled track time, plus skid pad time and all the instruction as needed or until signed off for solo driving, is a great bang for the buck at $300 for the weekend. Friendly Mazdaphiles to socialize with, share car experiences and drive your tails off all weekend. MDA events are typically on the lower end of the cost spectrum, high on experienced instructors and quality track time.

That track looks simply amazing, all those lovely intricate twisties the 8 just loves to slice thru. If I was nearer I'd jump on that deal w/2.2hrs of tracktime instantly! You lucky mid-atlantic rotorheads , go for it. esp. nubees, get a whole bunch of youselves together as a group, have a blast, and change your life!

Bad math on my original post, eight 26-27 minute sessions translates to approximately 212 minutes in total or 3.5 hours for the weekend vice the incorrect 2.2 first mentioned. Even more track time.

Here is another look at the track layout.

Does anyone have a vid of a lap of the track, preferably in their 8, but any old car will do?

I made this trip last fall with MDA. Shenandoah is a terrific track for RX-8's, with lots of twisties, elevation changes, enough straightaway to have fun with, etc. By comparison, Shenandoah is about the same length as the main track, but with about twice the number of turns. (Folks joke that Shenandoah is the world's biggest autocross track.) The banked turn is a blast too. They had people show up from as far away as Michigan for this event.

MDA does a great job of organizing fun, safe events. I strongly recommend.

(Which reminds me - I still need to mail my hardcopy form...)

Yes... see MDA's site. Here's a link to the Video Page. Scroll down to where it says Shenandoah Circuit Videos.

EDIT: Here's a pic courtesy of Expo1.

Group hotel rate is $55/night, MSCW helmet rental is $30 for the weekend from Paul at Kleinpa@***.net. There is a gas station just a few miles from the track, race gas available in the paddock. Food is reasonable at the track, lunch ~$5, we generally meet in Winchester for dinner. Weekend fun, priceless.
