Thumbs up Holiday Laps '08 @ VIR

VIR is hosting Holiday Laps for the Salvation Army once again this year. The Salvation Army and the NC Rotaries request the presence of all rotorheads to participate in this awesome event!

Cost: A donation of $25 cash, or equivalent of toys or non perishable food items w/ receipt...gets you a 20 min track pass.

You can donate as much as you want and receive more track sessions...laps are paced but are very, I repeat very spirited. I hit 124 on the back stretch so, it's not your typical parade lap session. It's not a race, helmets are not required, and all drivers drive at their own risk. Any damage to the track or your vehicle will be your responsibility.

Location/Time: VIR main paddock, gates open at 8am and sessions end at 4pm, Nov 14th.

There were over 150 cars at this event lastyear, and it only gets bigger every year it's held. I will try and organize a Mazda only session once I see what kind of participation we have at the track.

-Nic

yeah, im pretty sure the nj/ny crowd is too far for this.

if you enjoyed englishtown.. VIR is just a whole new world. let me put it to you this way.. englishtown is a cessna 172 and VIR is a lear jet. the cessna is a great little plane, but you just cant compare the two.

This would be a stretch, no matter how I try to spin it. Six hours drive one-way from this neck 'o the woods...

http://maps.google.com/maps?dir=to&s...%2C+-79.191804

Don't get me wrong, it's tempting as all hell! VIR, the "Full Course", 20 minute sessions for the cost of a bag of groceries each? Two hours closer, I'd be on it like the proverbial "bum on a ham sandwich".

Six hours, and through DC at that, I dunno.

striker, you wouldnt go through d.c., that is just silly. you would take 495 and go around d.c. here is my recommended route. i'd take 95 down as far as possible. because you'll be doing 80-85mph. also, i'd go around richmond as well.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sadd...141113&t=h&z=8

i am definitely going, i hope to see most of you there. two of my good friends will be joining me. so i hope you guys show up to impress them.

Just go late night before hand or mid day. 95 south is a parking lot starting at 3PM and the beltway will be packed morning and afternoon. I've made that mistake before.

Have fun guys. 7 hours round trip is a little more than I can justify for a few laps.

bring $150 and its not just a few laps. 20 minutes is good for at least 5 laps. $150 = 6 sessions. thats at least 30 laps. thats... quite a day.

and you are in VB.. thats not far at all. im doing 5 hours to my friends house in NC, then an hour back up to VIR the next morning.

come on, COME ON!

englishtown had a really nice rx8 turn out. it would be nice if we had at least 10 rx8s show up here.

Can you do that many sessions? It's too late for me to change my work schedule now, but if you can do a lot of runs, maybe next year. I'll be back out for MazdaDrivers for sure.

We were able to get in 4 sessions last year before time ran out. The sessions are 30 mins each (at least they were last year).

a scanner as in a radar detector? don't try using it in VA, they are illegal in this state.

"BUMP!" for finding my long-distance mojo...

If I can stand running from Easton/Annapolis MD to north of Boston MA and back, I can do this in the -8 in my sleep. The company car has a driver's seat that reminds me of a "front-porch couch": stains, wear, upholstery tears and springs you can eventually find a pocket between

Midlifer! Howinell do you keep your car alive up there? Spent the week in Burlington at the Staybridge for a Cisco ACCR class, and alternately spent the time marveling / cowering in fear at the unholy traffic. There's a following distance for a REASON, people!

This really is a lot of fun and all the proceeds go to a good cause. It's a win x2!!!

Hey kersh4w, you seem to be making the farthest trip...I may have to throw in a little gift for the longest distance traveled! My group should have about 8 cars attending, can't miss us...I'm sure we'll be the only other rotaries around. Oh yeah, if you're up for it we are gonna grab a bite to eat at Aunt Millie's right around the corner from VIR. They have some of the best pizza and stromboli around.

Damn, not only can't I go, but you're going to Aunt Millie's as well! Argh!

Good runs, guys!
