Does anyone know this guy (Eddie Alvarez)? I paid him for his CF fenders back in December, and I've received neither the fenders nor has the money been refunded. The phone number he gave is now owned by someone else (if it was indeed ever his number).

hey, I'm from East Fishkill, which is in Dutchess County. I got an 04 RX8 in September 2010, and love it. I know I've seen a few other 8s around, including a silver one that stops at the market a mile from my house. I haven't seen that silver one lately but the owner probably doesn't have the enthusiasm about his car like I do.
Anyway, I'd been a big follower of the tuning scene since HS and when I had my Focus, I literally spent days compiling a list of as many of the available aftermarket parts for the series I Focus (2000-2004) which ended up being 30 pages long in a DOC format... Lately, I've found that probably 75% of the parts are discontinued and no longer available and the companies that offered parts exclusively for the Focus are now out of business.
For some of the companies that did offer parts for other makes and models, I am curious as to which ones for the RX-8 are still going strong. Like VIS Racing, are they still doing business? I saw Carbon Creations stopped updating its site about 2008, and many other aero sites have gone the way of the dodo.
Nice to see that the RX-8 has a devoted followership. I was a frequent poster to a Focus fan club back in the day but stopped visiting about 6 years ago.
Anyway, if anyone in the area wants to meet up, I'd love to!

I went to my nearest Mazda dealer, in Poughkeepsie, to inquire about pricing for a new remote and passenger side visor (which fell victim to that cold/hot sticking glue problem) and the OEM parts prices they gave me was astronomical... $181 for a remote, another $30 to program the remote, and $181 for a new passenger visor. I was like, "No bleeping way!" (didn't actually say it), said, "Alright, thanks for your help." and left. I couldn't afford those prices, so I'm not sure if I want to have my oil changed by the dealer.

Thanks for the reply. I am in hopewell jct. Is your 8 by any chance red? I saw one pass the other day with a green magnet on the back. I have also seen another red parked in an apartment complex in Fishkill, but its always parked I never see it moved. I am just waiting for my title to arrive and then I will be insuring, registering, and getting my winter blazer off the road for the 8. I just want the oil changed first and am also nervous about bringing it to someone that doesn't know this car.

Def. take it to a dealer, generally an auto shop gets more regular piston-based engines than rotaries, and Mazda service people are specially trained in servicing rotary engines as Mazda is the only automaker that still uses them, and even then, use the engines on a limited basis. Unlike Subaru or Porsche which use boxer engines throughout most of their line-up, Mazda uses rotary engines primarily in the halo car, in this case, the RX-8.
The closest dealer I can think of is the one up the road from Miracle Ford on Rt. 9. I think it's Poughkeepsie Mazda, it's on the southbound side of Rt. 9.
Finally got my taillights dry on the insides. damn condensation
