it's not from the VIN, but yes it is in the VIN. "FD" is shorthand for Mazda's chasis code for the car -- FD3S -- which means nothing to anyone except for Mazda, sorta. This is said by pronouncing each letter/number ... "eff-dee-three-ess." Some people mistake the "S" on the end as a plural form of "FD3" which is wrong. It is not and "FD3" and the plural for is not "eff-dee-threes." So ... FD3S ("eff-dee-three-ess") or "FD" for short. Plural of that can be "FDs". As has been said, the second gen is "FC" short for FC3S and the 1st gen is SA22C ... "SA" ... I think only in the USA does that "FB" designation exist for some weird reason.
In Japan, it's much more common to refer to cars by chasis code because it quickly designates the generation, manufacturer, and model of a car, rather than saying "3rd Generation Mazda RX-7." It's also used sometimes because multiple cars are built on the same/similar platform with internal parts that are universal ("mods", etc.).

Yea more or less. Lol
Chassis codes r fun!!!
And I didn't know it was "eff dee three ess" I thought it was the other way. But always good to know. I guess I never knew that cuz no one ever says FD3S unless its online, thus improper pronunciation.
And if u go to that link on 7club, many members have their own definition for FD. Like: Fund Depleter, Female Dazzler, Forgetting Debt, etc. Lol

help
Hi, i just moved here to Hofstra from Maryland, i just had a turbo put in before i came up, and initially it had a problem so the fail safe like thing kicked in allowing the car to run but once it hits like 4000 it just wont let it do anything, so i cant get the car to go more like 25, the problem turned out to be a melted wire and was fixed and the overheating problem was fixed, but it just happened again and i am positive it had nothing 2 do with over heating, so my question is what is the closest place to Hempstead that will work on a turbo RX-8's?

Everyone check out that potential meet. Too many people have a problem with Wednesdays these days, including me. So here is a Thursday meet that I will attend. Will be sporting a TurboXS headerback system if that interests anyone.
