I'll probably try Great Neck soon, spent the last few weeks trying to deal with Wayne Mazda because of the high recommendations on this site. I'm not saying anything bad about anyone else's experience, nor am I saying the techs are not good. The problem is with the advisers. I would rather deal with the techs, the people you actually talk to are flat out jerks, dishonest, and are not looking out for the customer. In my opinion, avoid Wayne Mazda at all costs. My best experience ever with service departments, and I've been to 8 different locations across the US, is Mazda of El Paso. Yep, El Paso, go figure.

by the looks of it all the long island mazda dealers arent that good. the huntington one really turned me off the way the salesman treated me. we should complain to mazda corp that their lack of a good dealer turns people off from their cars. why could we all be like metric subaru and dan brown, they are good people and treat their customers well

I never tried Wayne so I cant say. but I did had a lot of experience with Great Neck Mazda.

The problem with Great Neck Mazda is that, they always think you're a moron and refuse to listen to whatever things you said about the *actual solution* to the problem. then after a few visits and NOT buying any of their *packages*, they start giving you ****, said u might void warranty, just try to keep you away so they dont have to do the *low profit* of warranty work. They ripped a lot of people off there Im telling you.

The service guys around me are very nice to me. I even got help from them when I doing my turbo install. They let me borrow their SST's and stuff. Also, I came back to them since my fuel tank caps (the ones that need that annoying SST) were leaking, they brought a bunch of mechanics out into the parking lot and helped me out right on the spot, no charge. Their boss even came out to see what was up and chatted me up about the car. Great people, all of them.

I'm starting to go around getting prices to order a new '09 R3, I can get the S-Plan price and there's an incentive for $500 Cash Back and 3.9% APR. I went to Huntington today and the guy gave me the S-Plan price minus the 500 at $30106. Is there anywhere that might give me a better price on the island? If I can get it under 30k, or 29,500 I'd be happy.

EDIT:

Also, while I'm on the topic, would you guys rather get the R3 or the GT. I'm looking it over now, and besides the cool trim and shocks, I don't see a HUGE difference. What do you think?

Garden City......for those that didn't know my I was having steering wheel probems. While I was gone, it turned out because my car was jumped without actually needing to be, the ECU got fried. These guys had my car for just about 3 weeks. In the end, i don't think i spent over $400. He did a lot to get things covered under warranty and by mazda. For the ECU, i only had to pay for the overnight. Steering rack ended up getting covered, along with a bunch of other stuff. Good people there trying to build a customer base.

Just to let you guys know that Smith Haven Mazda in Smithtown has been reopened under new owner. I'm going to go there for my 5K miles service and see how they are (I've changed my oil + filter at 2,500 miles myself, but psstttt). I'll let you guys know my impressions about them.

Great. Please let us know how they do. How are their parts stock?
How many Mazda trained (experienced) techs do they have?
Are any of the guys from the previous Smithown dealership there?
There were a couple of really good ones (rotor heads) there. Don't know where they wound up.
How familiar and trained are they on rotaries?

I always ask.. "how many RX8 engine swaps or compression checks have you done here?" Just to see how up to speed they are.

I'm wondering how spread out they are with their other brands. I think they do other cars besides Mazda there.

Do you know when they opened?

I'm in Coram... and work close to the 112 dealership. Have never been impressed there... but Smithtown and Huntington have been good.

Did the 5000 miles service. They just reopened in Feb 2009, new owner and *all* new mechanics. They've done 2 engine swap so far, and charge 1 hour labour for compression check. I only saw Mazda cars on the lot this morning, a couple RX8s at the back and 1 blue R3 in front.

They apparently don't stock the oil filter for 09 RX8, I had to ask them to order a few for me at $8 each (thought those would be $6 each ?). And they don't sell the oil filter cap wrench either and they can't order it for me.

The guys seem to be nice and approachable, there were only 2 mechanics around in the morning (9am), but I was early.

I might go there for stuff that I can't do on my own and keep you guys posted with the experience.

P/S. They fitted plastic license plate holders for free without asking since mine was bare bone before, I guess it's for their advertisement, too.

Well I have to chim in and inquire...

Usually i go to Wayne, NJ they are great. Mod friendly. They are very good with body kits - meaning they can get them on and off the lifts with out issues.

Why am I mentioning this...well for those of you that have seen my 8 especially most recently (perhaps tonight if it doesn rain and you guys wanna chill @ Dave & busters / Stop & Shop on Vets Hgwy - exit 57 on LIE) my 8 is lowered w/the espleir springs and now have the vertex lang body kit. Now what I want to know how many of you are actually lowered, have a body kit and are modified? And the 2nd question is which dealership do you go to for service where they won't break your ***** and try the stupid usual dealership mentality "well you have a body kit and lowered so that is the reason for your engine or electric issues"...

@ Wayne the guys listen and very careful. Most of the techs are moders as well. Kevin has an FD w/turbo. One of the other guys there has an MX5/miata that is modded as well. So these guys know how to treat a moded car. They go out of their way to help you with your issues and in some instances try their best to get what you need done under warrenty - grandted you still have warrenty, lol.

So guys....which LI dealers are good for service on a modified, dropped and kitted out 8?

OK do you mean the guys helped you outside of the dealership? Or do you mean being there at the dealership as warrenty work?

If I can find a dealer on the island that will work on warrenty issues on my 8 regardless of it being the way it is that would be dope. If not then I suppose Im stuck going to Wayne for their great service on modded cars.
