you should call Cam up, it might suprise you what the cost is, lets just say its far cheaper than any aftermarket rad you can find,,,
Dan I aggree we need to make a parts list and put it together,,, I really like your idea of using the windshield washer tank and trigger,,,, all you would really need is a long enough line and the right nozzle with the right spray pattern,,,

and as for the nozzle spray pattern just try sticking a needle in oem nozzle, it creates a nice sheet kind of spray. unfortunately i tried to re angle my nozzles and now one of them shoots like this and it kills me lol. but i cant find nozzles. well actually i havent really tried lol.

Hey, guys, I want to try and get out and drive tomorrow morning or Sunday morning, but I dont know of any good (long) drives in the region (that would be basically anywhere within an hour of 495(Beltway) and Georgia Ave (12 o'clock). I mean, I know of roads like Brighton Dam Road and some other shortcuts that take some decent curves between the Gaithersburg area and Columbia, but they are all pretty short. I mean, I am not expecting Rt 129 or anything. What is around?

Check out this area:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=3...,0.209255&z=13
It's hard finding 'long' drives, but you can hang around this area for a while with alot of fun. Specifically this route is great for about 10 minutes.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.104628&z=14
The hills above historic Ellicott City are fun as well, though closer to autocross than road course. Definately take your time and peek around to get a good lay of the land before you push it at all. Tons of places you can get air, blind corners near 90 degrees, etc...
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...04628&t=p&z=14
This is also a really fun road if you can catch it empty...but it's Virginia, with the PD issues, and passengers who think they are drivers. Used to hit this every night on my way to work in Sterling VA from Columbia. At midnight, it was often empty and great fun, even in my Corolla.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...04628&t=p&z=14
Good luck

RIWWP, those are all pretty good and not far from me. I will head out to the ones around rt100 tomorrow morning. As for the one around great falls, that would be the perfect road if it was just 10 times longer. You dont really have to go that fast to have fun, but you do have to find it somewhat deserted. Anyway, this was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. For longer, I would expect I'd have to drive out west of Frederick or into Penna.
We should have a Thread dedicated to just good drives.
Thanks Rotr8, I will drop him a line.

Yeah, I plan on hitting them all this week when I am down there.
![](http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww257/Yenadar/DCHour.jpg)
1 hour out from 495/Georgia actually gets you pretty far into western MD, and almost to Skyline Drive in VA. Once you hit the Appalachian mountains, it is easy to locate good roads. Skyline drive itself is incredibly awesome, but it is 3 hours from tip to tip, so if you do that, count on 90 minutes to get there, 3 hours to drive it, and 2.5 hours to get back. 7 hours total, but well worth it if you get there at dawn in good weather before anyone else shows up
Here is my thread from when I was able to detour to hit it a few weeks ago.

Yeah, when I get my car back we ARE hitting Skyline drive Mike! Things are looking good to have my car early this week, the turbo is in, fuel pump is in, boost/alky controllers are in, brakes are done, and they were finishing the piping up mid-afternoon yesterday. Ray from PFS is out of town this weekend, but I'm hoping for a Monday or Tuesday pickup.

I have heard rumors that there is a meet on Sunday 7/26/09 somewhere in MD. Is this true?
I have already got my shift covered based on the rumor alone.

The biggest key to success is finding the right road(s) and the right watering hold for after. Sharp twistyness keeping the speeds down and the fun up then follow that up with a good hole in the wall that has beer on tap.

[snip]crazy pic showing any place I can reach in an hour from my house[/snip] How did you do that???

Hehe, I did that via the Create Drivetime Zone function in Microsoft MapPoint 2006. I use it all the time for work.
I agree, it's more of a cruise, hard to keep the speeds up to make it really fun on Skyline and still avoid the federal park rangers
Besides, if the weather is good, frequent stopping for pics is generally recommended.
On the other hand, there ARE alot of good roads out there in the mountains![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'll have to see if I can find something out there that might work for a group thing.
...although I live in RI now, so it's ~6+ hours farther away for me
Hrm, thinking about it, West Virginia would be WAY better to find a place to hit. It's a bit farther drive to get to, but they aren't scared of the speed limit (70 on highways, most back roads are 55+), alot of mountain roads, and alot of dotted yellow roads to avoid slow drivers. That would probably require more planning though. My wife wants to get back to Canaan Valley WV again, and that was fun when I had my 91 Corolla. Would be a blast in the 8.
...I'm rambling.

^^^agreed on the WV thing. I am all for it. Will have to be planned well. Like I said, we should gauge some interest, find some roads and pick a date. If there are less than, say, ten of us, shouldn't raise to many hackels on the local fuzz, but as suggested it might make sense to drop them a line.
Alright, heading out tomorrow to follow first-rotary04 on his route. Anyone interested should drop one of us a pm to set a meeting spot. It is going to be early.

Hope you can get that cleared up. Aftermarket stuff breaking is part of the fun.
Facinating replys to your brake issue in this thread and the NY thread. I just love the intrawebz.

Wow! What a great ride! Some parts were scary as hell and I felt a little guilty going that fast with all my bicycling bretheren on the road.
Tell you what, Jamie is FAST! I was on the edge of my comfort zone, and sometimes out of it, just to keep him in sight! Tells you something about more power. On roads that twisty and tight, you dont need power.
Only had two close calls. First was right out the gate f-r04 took off and I tried sticking right to his hind end. But within 2 minutes of starting out, there is a damn stop sign. Brakelights go on and I stand on the brake. Totally locked them up and got a tad sideway. Woulda been a great way to start the day with my bumper in the dude's trunk. I made sure I didn't get too close the rest of the ride. Safe braking distance can get away from you in a split second.
The only other "almost" was around a corner with freshly mowed grass on the road. Got all over the place. Thank god for DSC.
Water temps stayed below 200 for the whole ride. Oil below 225.
Very nice ride, very fast and will do it again. Thanks guys and very much thanks to Jamie.
