I looked at a shinka at younger in Hagerstown and a sport at BMW of Annapolis both were a bust younger told me I was being unrealistic in the price I wanted to pay and BMW said that the price they listed was the lowest they were going since they still had to inspect the car so now I am at the point where I am assessing need over want and may not end up with another rx8 I just can't picture myself paying 5-7k more for the same car with leas options or in worse condition

no thats the mall not the park n ride.

You want to go to 8474 Honeygo Blvd, white marsh MD.

Once you turn in you will see the huge park n ride on your right and it will be your first right turn.

When you guys are there eating sushi, would you talk about power steering failure on my behalf? haha

I have a friend who is a mechanic and said if I buy the part the labor would be between 100-200. I'm looking at a car where the dealer has said the pwr steering rack needs to be replaced, for like $1200 ( part costs ~$350).

I dont think you can replace a rack in just 2 hrs on a modern car, and typical dealer mechanic rates are $90 an hr so theres 200 just in 2 hrs,,,

Got my 8

I went with the silver one with the sick sound system guys!

Car has 42,000 miles on it and is awesome. I am going to replace the breaks soon and start doing everything on the check list to improve the car even further.

Just a quick question if anyone knows, where is the radio antenna on the 2004's? The radio reception isn't all to great (I barely get DC101 anymore) and get get a little fuzzy sometimes.

noob - need suggestions

Hey guys,
I'm new to the club. I am planning to go to the FATT at summit point this weekend. I need suggestions from u guys, as many of you have track xp. I am running my 8 on stock everything. I never even used any other engine oil other than the recommended (5w20). I want to know if it was OK to put my car on track as is. Its got 16K miles on it so the brake pads shld be good but I donno how they can do on the track. And the brake fluid is DOT3 not DOT4. (Somehow everything that is recommended on the 8 doesn't sound right )

Any suggestions?

Welcome nimble8!
The only thing you really must do is bleed the brakes. Replace the fluid with Castrol LMA or Valvoline sythetic, both available pretty cheap at Walmart or Pep Boys. Both are equally good. If you are mechanically-inclined you can do it yourself with the help of a friend or some Speed Bleeders.

You should do a visual inspection on the brakes themselves to make sure you have enough pad left. If this is your first time out on the track and you've never autocrossed, the stock brakes will likely be OK. For a little more assurance you could step up to something like Hawk HPS or a set of premium ceramics from the local parts store. Also a good idea to visually inspect suspension components, like the anti-sway bar links which are know to come loose or break.

If you are not mechanically-inclined, I would take it to a local shop you trust and ask them to give it a once-over looking for loose bits and good brakes.

There are a couple of "First time HPDE suggestion" threads in the "racing" section, I think. Go there and give it a search.

Have fun!

@wanklebolt: Thanks so much. I never did any stuff on my car so I'll take it to some local shop to get that and the inspection done. And sure I'll let u know guys how my first track day was.

@everyone: I live in Gaithersburg, MD. Does anyone here recommend any good local shop where I can get these done..or I'll take it to the guy I have visited a couple times.
