Thanks for the welcome. Anyone bought the MS body parts for a shop in the area? Mazda-Parts has them but they are west coast, and since they only have primer nowadays its not very cost efficient. Thx

Interior white film on doors
Hey everyone. I just got my 8 a few weeks ago. After cleaning the leather and interior with black magic interior for leather and vynil, my doors have this really bad white residue or film on them.
Any ideas what caused this and how to fix? I read something about peanut butter but don't really want my car smell like a pb and j sandwhich lol.
Oh if your in Cumberland I'm the silver one

Replacement side l.e.d.'s on tail lights
Hey, this is completely random, but I live in MD, haven't found the answer anywhere else, and there are a lot of people following this thread, so I figured I would ask here:
Does anyone know where to buy replacements for the small side l.e.d.'s on the tail lights? I haven't been able to find one mention of them anywhere on the internet.
The one's I am talking about are highlighted in green in this picture.

They are not replaceable. They should outlast the car by decades (100,000 hours service life). If they stopped working it's probably a broken wire, not a failed LED.
Nonetheless, one possible source:
http://www.sparkfun.com/categories/89?sort_by=price_asc
You have to do the research yourself into the package size (3, 5, 10 mm) and mcd intensity.

Hey guys! Summer is fast approaching, and other than cleaning my 8 every weekend, I plan on doing some under the bonnet monkeying.
My 8 is completely stock in that respect, and I plan on starting with bhr coils wires and new plus, and working my way toward new intake, and exhaust (probably RB).
Anyone in the area wanna assist? I have all of the appropriate tools, and am capable of doing it myself, but where is the fun in that? I will pay beer and pizza for first hand experience or helping hands!
I'm in parkville right off 695 harford road area, and really wanna hang out with the 8 community.

Cool Surtur. I got mine in July last year and did a lot of maintenance and replacement stuff (brakes, filters etc), and love it to death. I don't have any dates as of right now, but will probably do the coils in early June on a weekend. It is a great job to learn to do for this car because not only does it increase the life of your engine and make run a lot smoother, you usually end up moving a lot of stuff to make it easier (so it's a good learning process).
The exhaust and intake stuff is pretty straightforward bolt-on process.
I have a few questions for you guys though.
This summer I want to do coils, plugs, intake, exhaust (perhaps with a midpipe) and seafoam. What is the best order to do them in? Is it really true that you can pass emissions inspection without a cat after seafoaming?

Emzloh, doesnt really matter what order, there is no benefit in doing one before the other. Im not sure about the seafoaming bit for emissions either, some people get cels from going straight pipe or high flow some dont. I do not, and I attribute that to two items, my reflash from Pettit and I also put a bung spacer for the rear O2 sensor.
Im in Towson and drive up and down Harford Rd frequently, once weather gets a little more consistent Im more than willing to help out for an install day....

hey im always willing to help i work at a hyundai/mazda dealer and have tools and access to a lift, which can make installs alot easier. No seafoam wont help pass emissions cuz they check under the car to ensure you have a cat. Pm me if you need/want some help i just did my mid pipe not to long ago pretty easy aslong as none of the bolts are rusted

I don't think I'd start with the coils. The BHR kit is top-notch, but unless you are tracking your vehicle or blasting down the road at 8-9000 RPM all the time, it's really overkill for a street-driven, unmodified RX-8. I have one to put on my RX-8, but I track the snot out of it and I'm going boosted soon. (And blast down the road at 9000RPM all too often... Just got another "I heard you misbehave but didn't see it so here's a ticket for no front plate to punish you anyway" ticket a couple of weeks ago. ) I tracked it for three years with the stock coils and didn't blow it up. I did replace the coils at about 25k.
Personally, depending on what you plan to do with the car, I would start with a COBB AP and MazdaManiac tune. Your going to get more performance out of that $500 than you will out of a coil kit, intake, and exhaust combined. And you can increase reliability (lower fan turn-on temps) and *cough* always pass emissions.
I'm an old guy, and I live in Forest Hill, but I'm always up for free beer and food if you want some help from an old guy.
Yeah, I was very surprised when they did that to my RX-8 at the VEIP station last year. They've never done that before. They are government employees, so I don't think they will look too hard, so long as they don't see an unresonated straight-pipe where the cat should be, I think they'll let it slide. For example I bet they wouldn't give the RB dual-res midpipe a second glance. Fortunately for me, I had a cat I bought from Dan and hollowed-out installed... And a COBB...

yup, I have the RB dual res pipe, the woman took her mirror and looked under the car and had a baffled look because she was practically choking on unburnt fuel fumes, she gave me a look then looked at the screen and said ok your good to go...

If the weather's nice there is always a big car gathering Friday evenings in the lot behind the Lowes in Aberdeen. People just hang out, look at everybody's cars and shoot the bull. Lots of no-vas and Rustangs, but more imports are showing up.
If there's something similar in a more-central location that would be cool. Or we could make our own. Just need a decent size lot where they won't mind us "loitering". Giant Foods parking lot across from the faigrounds, Sushi Hana parking lot in Towson, Home Depot in Owings Mills?
