I am down to help/learn and pay for labor/time. Just really don't want to do this in a driveway on my back.

If anyone can help PM me please, as I don't really get on here much anymore.
I work at Russel Mazda on Rt40 as a tech. I thought everyone on here knew that, guess not. Pm me

Yikes. That broke real good. That shaft is more of a guide than a shaft. Nothing should really spin on it.

You did replace the pilot bearing while you were in there, right?

I haven't replaced the pilot bearing yet, but i intend to, I have one that came with the exedy kit, I'm waiting for the replacement throwout bearing 'guide' part. Although truthfully the only thing stopping me from tackling the pilot bearing at the moment is I need to get a 54mm socket for the flywheel, and something to hold it from turning.

to make matters worse my air compressor gave up the ghost today.
I heard this electric buzzing noise and saw smoke rising out of where the compressor motor is. sheesh, one thing after another.

New part arrives Tuesday afternoon, i'm immobilized until then. :-/

You mean like this one? If you're anywhere near Timonium during the day or Bel Air/Fallston in the evening you can borrow it.

How big a compressor are you looking for? I have an upright 60 gallon I'm not sure I want to keep.

Hi fellow Marylanders, can anyone suggest a good independent rx8 mechanic in the Annapolis area. Im in need of a second opinion on a new engine. I also need as much info as i can get about the extended warranty on the engine. I have a 05 with 83,000 miles on it. Thanks!

your in luck im a tech at a mazda dealer you should still be under warranty for just the engine the extended warranty on 8's goes up to 100k if im not mistaken do you have any mods on the car, that will be a determining factor when you go to the dealer. How do you know the motor is blown did you have a compression test done PM me or call me 443-955-2180

It also depends on when her 05 was first sold or produced. I know I'm around the 83k mark on my 05 and the 100k warranty has expired back in Sept.

Rx8grl we will need a bit more information about your 8. Is it manual or automatic? What symptoms are you experiencing?

Hey all, apparently my warranty was up in May. I had a compression test done at a local dealer. I have been having trouble with hot starts. Compression came back at 4.9? Which is low. So i was quoted a new engine and starter. They told me no chance of warranty extension or rebuild. Looking at trying to find out what a as is trade in value would be too.

Car is an automatic and just experiencing hot starts. Starts fine in the cold. Sent it to the shop, when it just stopped in the middle of the road last week. Just stalled out.
Any extra info is greatly appreciated.

4.9 would be right in the middle if your cranking speed was only 150rpm, only having that first number isn't enough info you need to know what speed it was cranking at, refer to the chart at the top of this thread:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cWc&cad=rja

if your compression is ok based on the rpm that it cranks at then having the newer stronger starter motor would help with sluggish starts. Low compression would accompany a noticeable drop in engine power, which admittidly is harder to notice with a automatic transmission, but you should still notice it. Here's a thread regarding a stronger starter motor:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...ummies-189410/
the thread says it's for manual cars which use a different nose gear than the auto's, but you can swap the nose bits easily, they come off with two bolts.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...rx-8-a-199742/

Someone feel free to call me out if I'm off base here.

From what I see from the autos that come in at work, 90% of automatic rx8's get motors but would really need to see true compression numbers to be completely sure.

Agreed, I'm just thinking if her starter is weak, it's not out of the question to think her cranking rpm is as low as 150 :-/

Looks like Unique/Moneymaker just got himself not only banned but nonpersoned!

Hey Nathan, I'm glad you got your car back together. Brave man finishing it in the snow! Never heard back from you about the socket so I'm guessing you found or bought one?

Only three months until autox season starts again...

Yeah I got it back together but now clutch engagement point is uncomfortably low, I think I need to shim the slave throwout lever interface...

And yeah I feel you on the off season, I'm using forza and autobahn to tide myself over :-)

you can adjust the pedal travel from inside the car. shimming it will lead to problems.

You can adjust the clutch master from the push rod on the pedal. leave about an inch of free play.
