They'll be a little overdamped if your on stock springs, but I'd say that without valving changes that koni yellows would be good from about 250-400 pounds per inch spring rates on an RX-8:

From his thread on the forum:

KONI SPECIAL!!!
$525 SHIPPED within the U.S.

Also if anyone wants me to design inexpensive but high quality coilover kits for them, just let me know what you'd use the car for (autocross, moar low, street/track hybrid) and I can tell you spring rates, damping ratios, ride heights, blah blah blah, hell I'll even build it for you and help to install it.

Not bad, they're a little stiffer which you need with a drop that deep. But the small increase in stiffness isn't even enough to overwhelm your stock dampers if you don't want the cost to replace them

Btw does anyone have a set of oem coilovers lying around that I can tinker with? Just to take measurements and stuff, easier when they're off the car...

If either of you are going to Sushi on the 22nd, you'll have a time there. And if just Chris goes, I can always drop them by Nate's place, as it's on the way home from Wilmington for me.

That'd be awesome Chris! I wont be going out to wilmington as I'll be in Frederick that day for Autox, but if i could get my hands on those puppies thatd be glorious. I'm pretty serious about this suspension design thing, maybe starting a side bid-ness...

Sounds good. I can make it a point to meet up with you somewhere on the way back.

I did a DIY alignment in the driveway, maxed camber on all four corners and zeroed out toe front and rear, the car feels neutral like before thanks to the zero toe but the grip limit feels higher. The body roll seems to bring the contact patch flat now right at the limit. :-) Autocrossers Inc Event in Waldorf at the southern MD blue crabs stadium, come on out and say hello and have a ride along, let's see what this alignment can do!

Nathan, you may want a little bit of toe-in on the rear for stability. Otherwise the rear will wander far and wide, especially under braking. I overdid it once on my 8 and it was like driving a bowl of jello. Fun, but a heaping handful to keep the pointy end forward.

yeah there's about 0.1 inch of total toe in the rear, its not a very precise adjuster for that so i got it as close to zero as i could erroring on the side of in, it sums to about 3mm difference

AI was awesome today, I'm uploading a video, should be available around 11 o'clock:

Noticed slight changes in your line on the 2nd run. It looks as if you went deeper into turns with more speed 3rd run.

Funny to see the usual suspects in the lot from last year.

Yeah it was a bit of a thin crowd though, i think the cool temperature kept alot of people away.

That course had a lot of subtleties to it, i had to keep trying different things, I think if you took the first half of my last run and the last half of my third run it's just about perfect

The one in Fredrick is very tight and hard to get much speed, it is so much about grip and nailing each turn. Whereas a course like FedEx, is big enough where you can be a little more creative with lines and speed.

Agreed with Denim, the smaller courses are difficult to find time on cause you've really got to be inch perfect, I prefer tight technical courses to the broad open ones personally, cause I feel it plays to mine and my cars strengths, but once I get my suspension upgrade together it'll be a different story

welcome to club, congrats on finding an R3, I'm Jay the local certified Mazda tech.[/QUOTE]

Hey J I'm new to the club and in the area. I've had my 8 for about 8 months and loved it until I started having hot start issues and gereral power loss. I got a compression test done by mazda and the numbers were low. My question is do you have any recommendations for a shop that could handle an engine rebuild or replacement.

To be honest no, not in this area the only other shops I know of that have dealt with rotaries in Lancaster, Frederick, and there's one in VA but recently I haven't heard any good things from either.

You said you had your 8 for bout three months, what dealer did you take it to? And has ALL of your warranties ran out

I have been to the heritage dealer on reisterstown rd. I got all the warranty information and yep its completely out of warranty at this point. I have done everything except clean my ssv to try to get the car to perform better. I just had my cat inspected to make sure it wasn't obstructed.

I think i made the official decision to just do appearance mods on my 8. I just bought a RAL from lebren and engine bay lighting as well, but on the downside i just got told i have to attach my front license plate -_-. any good location ideas? imho I don't like to place it right in the center of the grill on my car. Ideas or opinions anyone??

I doubt it is legal, but I have seen a few guys who bent their tags so that only the numbers show and put them on the very bottom of the front diffuser. Below the "smiley" part.
