Hey guys, I know this will be a repost but I thought I would put it in here anyway under the assumption that some did not search for it because they did not know about it so put the flaming blow torches away! This is especially important news for some people that are new to the group and those that bought used RX8’s…
"RotaryNews.com has confirmed that there will be a recall on the 2004, 2005 and some 2006 Mazda RX-8s. Not every RX-8 will need a new engine, only those that fail a series of tests, including a new vacuum test. The replacement engines will correct for issues ranging from flooding, hard starting, complete loss of compression, and use of Synthetic Oil in hot climates. For those that do not require an engine replacement, the ECU will be reflashed to provide for more lubrication (an already released Flash). Recall notice letters will be sent out to owners on a staggered schedule. At this point some dealers do not know about the recall, as the bulletin has not been sent.
Jeremy Barnes from Mazda Public Relations stated: "We will not walk away from any Mazda owner." Jeremy also pointed out that other issues that have escaped on the Internet as of late were only part of the story. He hopes the recall action by Mazda will show owners that Mazda is doing the right thing after all.
We at RotaryNews say, if you own an RX-8, check over this list of TSB's. If your car is experiencing any of the issues listed on that page, print out the ones that apply to you, and bring them down to the service department while they check your car for the other recalls. We, at RotaryNews also say: "if in doubt, do NOT use Synthetic Oil." For those of you that are "Rotary Gods" (!) and know what you are doing, it is OK, other wise stay away from synth, and use the good old Dyno Juice."
In short all of us with 2004 - 2006's will probably be getting new engines or at the very least a new ECU flash. This recall is 100% voluntary so you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. Those of you who get the notice and want to do it and have a turbo… you may want to take the turbo off before going to the dealer… just an FYI. If you bought it used and your not sure if Mazda has your info to send you the recall notice, you may want to call Mazda North America Operations and see what you have to do.

Well its official...
After talking with Mazda North America Operations and my car dealer, my RX8 (Late 2005 RX8 GT) qualifies under this recall. I wont know if my car needs a new engine or just some simple work done until I drop it off on monday so they can start their testing of the car. I would advise people to start calling their dealer to see if their car falls under this recall. Hmmm if they do replace my engine I wonder if I can sweet talk them into popping in a 20B engine

So, the mazda salesman calls me today. Basically, you had to fill out a survey if you wanted to have a really nice car wash for free. I answered the survey as honest as possible. I checked most of the boxes "dissatisfied." He called me to basically argue about the survey. I got so angry and told him that i was being honest. basically what happened during the purchase of the 8, he always put me on hold when i'd have questions about the car and stuff (pricing and status). and when i called him at opening time, he said he would call me back as soon as possible. But the funny thing is that he never did. I had to call him right before they closed, and he told me that he had a customer the whole day. that is understandable if it happens once, but this **** happened four times during the week. He would not update me about the car at all. Also, he gave me an original pricing of the car, and then changed it because he said it was a mistake? When i got the 8, the visor was already broken because another salesman broke while doing something. He was basically a jerk about it. I was yelling at him. Haha, he told me that i cant even get my first oil change for free anymore because the survey wasnt good. what a ***. he also said told me to ask somebody else about the car wash b/c he doesnt want to deal with me? i was about to raise hell up in Russel Mazda. Seriously, dont go there. People are just madd disrespectful about customers in general. I'm goin to talk to the manager hopefully tomorrow and ****** raise hell. haha, sorry it was long, but i thought i should share.

Go to Rich Morton in Glen Burnie. Talk to Frank Titus, he's the Mazda service writer. I've had good dealings with him on some warranty work on the 8. Other's on the board have also had good luck with them.

and / or call them and file a complaint @ 1-800-222-5500
Also you can file the complaint here too... http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/emailMazda.action
I personally would call the GM and mail him and send a copy to mazda as well was filing a complaint over the phone and internet. Make sure you get their attention. Im sorry you have had so many issues with them, I guess I lucked out and got the only good 3 people down there who take care of my problems right away

An alternative is to use Rich Morton which gets rave reviews from people or go to Fitsgerald auto mall in annapolis (which is a mazda dealer) and ask for Scott in service directly. Also there is a guy down there named Jimmy (James) Small... I went to HS with him. He is good people and would gladly help you out. Since they are being dicks at russel Ill pay for a carwash for ya down at Dolly's on 40... Their people do a pretty good job over there.

Try Rich Morton Mazda. I've been dealing with Frank Titus since I bought my 8 there ... he is a straight shooter ... I would stay away from Russell on rt 40 did not have good experiences there working on my Millenia ''S" or my 88 GXL
If you haven't read about the recall on the 8 check out the Recall Thread in Media News This may be the longest thread on the site ... it's now 112 pages and growing.
There is another interesting thread in the Tech Garage Issues and Problems with Feedback about the recall.

Anybody here rocking the AEM cold air intake? My check engine light is on for two reasons...something about the EVAP control and the other reason is some kind of sensor issue, its not the MAF sensor but the other one thats right next to it sort of( cant remember what its called). Anybody else have these problems?

Okay heres what the printout says, I had to get off my lazy butt and get it outta the car. "MAF or VAF Circuit High Input" and "EVAP Emission Control System Leak Very Small"
On the throttle body theres this little nipple(couldnt think of another word lol) that comes out and it use to have a hose on it that went somewhere into the airbox. The directions told me to put the supplied vaccum cap on this nipple but the cap they gave me was too small and wouldnt fit so I put some tape on it till I could find a bigger one. I still dont know where to get one at. Nobody has them, Autozone, Advanced, Pep Boys, Vivid, Gw motorsports...nowhere. And the directions also never told me to do anything with that other sensor...the VAF sensor Im guessing, so its just hanging there right now. It has a green end and used to be plugged in somewhere around the bottom eof the airbox.
oh yeah it does have a screen in there

bruce, the sensor is most likely the MAF. the green connector is for the VFAD, so you don't need it. the cap doesn't have to be plastic. it can be a rubber vacuum cap. any parts store should have them.
find a cap and plug it. make sure the MAF is connected securely. delete the faults, you shouldn't see them again.
