Peak time is Dec. thru April. Spring Break could be a good time! We went for our tenth anniversary so we stayed at a quiet resort. We took a waverunner over to Hedonism 2 and most people were totally nude. That place looked crazy!!! If you do plan to go, I would recommend Negril. Thats where we stayed and as they say,"No problem, Mon"

Ramp to Rio
I take that ramp just for kicks.
Took it just yesterday, hit 83 and the car felt planted. No drama, and it was fast. I've taking that ramp at 75 in my old miata, but that was a miata with a completely non-stock suspension. My RX is bone stock. Fun off ramp, but even more fun is the banked right-hander going from Sam Eig onto to Diamondback! Woohoo, that's a fun little turn. :D

hmmm.. 270??? is that further down in DC area or something? well i was test driving an 8 yesturday.. the top of the line one.. and those things handle great.. like with a tap of the finger you in the next lane.. I took it on ramps and it handled like a dream.. the dealer was like dont "hot rod it" i was like "i know i know.. I love my car too".. besides that the ride was fun, but i just dont like that the clutch is to soft for me.. that's just about it.. and 4K rpm felt like nothing and it doesnt even get as loud as a 7 at 4K.. i'm saving up to get a 8 used.. :-D..

hey shawn,
I know exactly what you're talking about, cuz i take that every weekend when coming home from school.. But i never had the guts to go that fast. The fastest I've probably gone was 70, mainly cuz i have a base model and there's no DSC in case something goes wrong.. Do you live around there?

go your own pace
Shawn,
Go your own pace. I never do anything unless I'm comfortable with it in the car. I'm carefully testing my car's ( and my own) limit. I found 75mph to be the limit at which I was comfortable in the miata, it seemed like the car could do more but I didn't want to push it. With the 8 I hit 80 comfortable and I'm just inching it up each time. Just do what's comfortable and don't test yourself too much. Don't want any accidents right?

Helle Reno IV-- I got the base Pearlwater White model with 6-speed and wing. Nothing else. Would have been interested in the NAV but it was not on the White one I wanted and it added close to $2k. Did you get the NAV. If so, how do you like it? When you say "break it in quickly so I can really enjoy the drive" what approach to breaking it in did you take. And yeah, I hooked by the cult after just 425 miles. So far, it is a great car and all my neighbors -kids and adults- come out to look it over.

bobafpe,
during break in you don't want to take it to redline it for the first 1,000 miles .... don't stay at the same speed for extended periods of time.
The key to rotary longevity is changing the oil on a regular basis.... some do every 3k or every 5k. When the oil is changed you only drain 3-4 quarts and the rest is in the oil coolers ect.
I always change mine after the first 1k in my new cars to remove any particles left over from the manufacturing process … then every 3-4k after that. It might be overkill but My FC has over 148k on it and still going … three other piston engines 109-135k without any engine issues.

NASD office
Anybody here work at the NASD office in Gaithersburg? I see two other silver 8's here. One has temp tags and the other has "RX8" as his vanity plates. I'm the yellow 8, usually up on the second or third floor of the garage....faaaar away from any other car. :D

RenoIV: Thanks for the links to threads of advice for new owners. I'm a little late reading your response, but I did find a break-in thread earlier that recommended not taking it past 3,000 rpm for the 1st 1k miles and not taking it past 4,000 during the 2nd 1k miles. After that, it said to have fun. So. I'm being a very boring RX-8 drive so far, but I really like the car and get lots of looks and comments, which is real nice too. Hope that break in advice is ok. What do you think? Bobafpe

thats really good for ya.. as your knowledge of ya car gets more advance you'll notice people who dont own one.. but seen them.. talk to you like you dont already know what is in it..
i had a guy try and say "yeah you dont have any pistons.. you got those triangle things that spin around in there.." i'm like "um.. yeah.. they are called rotors" ... and the convo went down hill eventually i just gave up talkin to him until he got quiet..

Hey! Haven't posted in a while. I have almost finished my system in my 8. I put on strakes and clear corners yesterday. I need to clean car this weekend and will post some pics by the end of long weekend. Also, I am signing up for autox school in Fredrick next month for July. If anyone else is interested I'll post link.

Yea, its kinda depressing to see all of these 8* owners out there and not meet up with any of them. I live in the bethesda/rockville area. Also, I work at the Sodexho building beside the Rio. I am somewhat new to the area as well. Just wondering how old you guys are also what in gods name is there to do, as of now, I basically just work and sleep, and drive now of course

After 1k I would drive it any way you want to ... That's what I did with my 7&8. After 1k the roters should be seated properly and ready for some fun. besides 2k is a lot of miles to wait to really enjoy your new toy!
