Welcome to the forum.

Fair warning, a lot of members on here are sardonic and nasty. If you have a thick skin you'll learn a lot though!

EDIT: Is your car new (07 or 08)? Any other details (Sport, Touring, GT, MT or AT? etc....)

I love the black and red combo- looks great in the silver! Sounds like a nice ride.
I have the black and red too but mine is painted red.

Hey Maryland folks!
I just joined the forums; I live in Gaithersburg. I got my 8 a little over a week ago. And wow is it great to drive.
What kind of gas mileage do people get? I haven't filled up the tank yet, but something tells me at the pump I won't even make the 18 mpg that I should get in city.
peace all.

On the highway, I've been able to get 24 mpg...

For my normal driving, I get about 12 MPG... but that's b/c I live 3.5 miles from work.. the engine is just barely warmed up by the time I get where I'm going, and driving on a cold engine eats gas.

When I've done city driving warmed up, I've gotten 15-18 MPG.

My average is 16.5. Mostly to and from work 12 miles one way. I rev it very high, frequently.

I saw 20MPG once on ALL highway driving at 80MPH in 6th.

ok guys thanks a bundle for that info. It'll put my concerns to rest a little bit. It looks like I'll be hitting around the 16 area as well. I live only a few miles from work and since I got the 8, have started taking the long way to and from work just to be able to stay in the car longer

Mine's gray, I guess. OR maybe silver, not sure of the official color name. I would have liked velocity red mica, but I was willing to make a compromise since it was Grand Touring and had everything else I wanted. My last car was red, so I guess it's ok to change.
I do have appearance pkg with rotary accents, which is pretty nice.

Thanks for the welcome flipRX8.

I redline the engine at least once per day too, probably not helping my gas mileage.

Yeah I guess high revs eat gas, and cold engine eats gas. In the manual it has the recommended gear switching points. The interesting thing is it suggests you're in 6th gear by only 46 mph. Looking at all the speeds and monitoring my RPMS at the recommended gear switching speeds, I noticed that the manual is suggesting to switch all the way down between 3000 and 4000 RPM.

This would suggest to me that the most efficient driving mileage-wise would be around 2500 RPM. That's kind of interesting considering the engine revs all the way up to 9000 with no problems at all... actually it begs to be revved up there.

This definitely isn't the car for mileage. Gas isn't cheap either. You are stuck with super. My last car, a v-8 94 T-bird would run on dirt.

Oh well, it also wasn't near as pretty as my zoom-zoom. Wait till you get pulled over by a cop that doesn't want to arrest you, but just wants to see your car up close and sit in the seat. crazy. It happened to me 2 weeks ago. I also had a hot tourist chick in DC ask to have her photo taken while she sat on the hood.

You will find it is hard to get good mileage in the city. Much better on the open road.

Talking about driving, if it is new you so have to find a nice winding country road where you can let loose a bit.

Vred, AT, red 3 tone interior, GT, Motega wheels

Oh yeah, that is coming this weekend. And as far as mileage... that will just have to be one of my dirty secrets
For now I'll do my part in destroying the planet with my car. Then, in a few years, I'll have a kid.

lol good point. This car needs to be treated with kid gloves. I was wondering also if anyone knows, since mine is used, should I reset the ECU so that the car resets and adapts the the way I drive now? Or will the not make a big difference for anything? It had 14000 miles when I got it.

the ECU will self-adapt to your driving style as you drive, no need to reset.

I know this is true, but it doesn't hurt to reset both the NVRAM and VRAM right? Just for piece of mind I would probably do it if I bought the car used. There's no harm in doing this correct?

There's a 7 meet at Fuddruckers off of Dobbin on Sunday. I'll be there with my 8. Can't make the 3 meet.

So, the people at work found out I have an 8 now. We were at the bar on Friday doing the after-work thing and one guy wanted to come over to see my car.
Well, he was giving two people a ride home, so they all came an crowded around. And then one of the other guys and his girlfriend saw me getting into the car and turning the key, and drove over and asked me what was I doing getting into someone else's car, and where is my car by the way... lol.

When I told him I traded it in for this, his jaw just hit the floor.
So all in all there were six people all walking around crouding the inside, inspecting the trunk, checking out the engine bay. One guy asked me to rev it up to 9k RPMs so he could hear what it sounds like.

They were all just going nuts over the car, so intrigued with the rotary and the mesmerizing sound, asking me tons of questions.

Then when I told them my wife made me buy the car, I saw that twinkle in the eyes that betrays far-off longing. hehe. This car rocks.
