Thank you everyone for your condolences! I have a little confession to make, I didn't want to admit this before because I didn't want people to say that I brought this upon myself. BUT, I had the Traction Control OFF at the time of the accident. I only leave it on when it is actually raining, and that morning it was not. The roads were a little damp, but not too bad. The accident happened about 6 miles from my house, and as I travelled those 6 miles I started to notice that the main roads were pretty wet, and I should probably turn the TC back on (and then I was trying to remember how to do that without turning off the car and turning it back on). That's when it happened, before I turned it back on. So I know that's what caused it. Also, I was probably going at least 40 so that's why it caused enough damage to total the car.
As a side note about the tires, I had also heard that the crappy stock potenzas weren't so great, and I had planned to change them for some avid w4s this summer.
As much as I loved my rx8, I just can't bring myself to get another one right now (for several reasons). But mostly because I am afraid my ins. co. might drop me if I get another "sports car". I am very sad about the whole thing, but I think I will just get a Mazda6 S (v6) next.
I'll post when I get it & I might even come to a meet

Did you have the TC fully off (button held down and TC light on) or partially off?
At least you were honest enough to admit to this, it'll help others who search the forum to understand the importance of keeping TC on. Still sorry to hear about your accident, truly sucks. We all make mistakes and the important thing is that no one was seriously hurt. Cars can be replaced, people can't.

I keep the TC off because I don't have TC. My 8 didn't come with it. The base 6-speed sport doesn't come with it as Mandy says.
My first couple of cars were RWD as well with no TC or ABS, so I'm OK at handling bad weather.

Man TC saved my *** on a hill in the snow. At first I was trying to do it myself giving gas and stuff at the right time to get some grip and get up. I wasn't giving the TC a chance to respond.
After a few seconds of that I thought, wait a minute this car is supposed to have some TC or something. So I just pushed on the gas and felt it applying different braking to each wheel separately and stuff like that, and all the sudden I made it over.

Wow, this thread is huge, but I guess I'll post anyway. I live in Columbia and work in Ft. Meade. I got my '05 Black Cherry Shinka about a month ago, and I'm loving it. I've seen a couple 8s recently in Columbia (near 175), and yesterday on the way back from Reston VA I saw a beautiful black RX8 driven by a pretty blonde. I was excited to see it because I've been working down in Reston all week and saw tons of Porsches, BMWs, etc every single day, but not a single RX8.

I think Muythabxr lives in the area as well. There are quite a few 8's in Columbia (relatively speaking).

Heh, thats funny, I'm off Tamar 2 lights down from you. I'll keep my eyes open for you. I saw a black RX8 over at the new liquor store "The Perfect Pour" next to Trader Joes a few weeks ago, and a yellow one on 175 with a crushed rear *wince*.

I don't know where the Trader Joes is around here either. In relation to Dobbin center or the Target where is this place?
Crushed RX8 makes me sad.

Dan's 8, parked in the lot sportin' the SF Challenges (in GOLD!!!), was more hooked up than the one (1) RX-8 they had displayed at HIN. But then, I thought the same thing of my xB...
EVO IX's, S2000s, 350Z's, STI's and believe it or don't, RSX's ruled this show in the numbers department. A couple of nicely tricked out FD's were in attendance though. So were several Skyline's (R32, R33 and a few R34's). I was surprised that there weren't more drift-spec'd S13's or S14's out there.
Anyway, Dan's ride was my favorite RX-8 there!

Wow. Cool! Yeah, you're like 2 miles from me. I lived in this area a while ago but moved away, then moved back. Where is this new liquor store and is it any good?

Anyway, yeah I live back by Oakland Mills HS, so not far at all. Trader Joes and The Perfect Pour (new liquor store) are both in the same shopping center by the Costco on 108 on the 175 junction near the new Best Buy/Lowes etc. So head towards Jessup from Dobbin/175 and make a left on 108. The Perfect Pour is awesome, it has the best selection of beer and wine from all over the world I've seen in a long time. They have special events every weekend, and can always recommend a new thing to try. Some of the beer is pretty pricy, but its worth it.

My buddy from RH (who told me about this forum actually) and I were going to head down to Hot Import Nights last night, but it was well over an hour commute each way for us, and weren't sure there would be too many 8s there so we decided not to at the last minute.

I actually was parked by the North Expo Center. I brought out my Polar White xB. Hey, did you see the yellow and black, Tokyo Drift-styled FD3S cruising around? He originally was parked right by me. Best thing about the show... all the lovely ladies!

Are you the one that parks behind me sometimes near the Tech Center?

Greetings from new 8 owner
Hey guys. Just got my 8 a couple months ago. I love this car. Probably the best all around sports car I've ever owned and I've had a couple rear wheel drive sports cars. I've been reading these threads right as soon as I got the car and I gotta say they are very useful and informative. I live in laurel. Got a VR. I am on 95 a lot. About a month after I got the car some lady ran me off the road on 198(right on the bridge, merging). So Now I got on an Unpainted MS (replica) front bumper. The black went nice with the red so I just left it. I would love to meet up with some 8 owners around here and go cruising. BTW I ride a z1000 too and I'm always looking for people to go riding with so, If you ride as well let me know. Peace.

I wasn't around this weekend though, I was at a meet for the MegaSquirt EMS in Atlanta.

I live north of you, but I'm in Columbia allot. I have seen a VR at the cabinet shop off of Snowden. Also a VR off of route 1 now and then. Saw a yellow over near Michaels. Saw a purple shinka on 32. Saw a silver near Target/Walmart exit off 175.
