Hey dude...that's me. I met you outside Blockbuster the other day. Sorry I was a little out of it when we spoke...rough day at the office. Anyways...I live and work in Olney, so I'm sure you'll see plenty of me. Flag me down next time and I'll buy you a cup of coffee or something to make up for my stinky attitude. Laters.

I'm jsut here to voice my extremem displeasure for Montgomery county... haha...

Is it agaisnt the law there to have East-West roads?

Do they have a problem with PG county that they don't want their residents to be able to get there?

Or am I just crazy, becuase it seems the best way to go from Germantown to Laurel is to go 10+ miles out of the way in each direction to get onto the constantly clogged 495? I couldn't for the LIFE of me find another way, short of goign all the way up to 70....

lol, you jsut stepped in dogsh*t there. Just google "Maryland intercounty connector".
Just so you know, there are plans to build an intercounty connector... they have been in the works since oh say the early 60's. Suffice to say that by the time it's done you won't have your 8 to enjoy on the roads anyway. You'll probably have long been dead from old age.

To quote a Washington Post headline: "After More Than 50 Years, Work on Montgomery-Pr. George's Link to Start in Fall"

I'm sure such a road would clear some of the congestion on the top of 495...

Heh, well, yes. That's the point of it. But there has been an ongoing argument for more than 50 years about how to do it, where to do it, and IF they'll even do it at all.

It mainly boils down to three different types of people*:

A) People who knew, all the way back 50 years ago that traffic in this area is ****, and it needs some serious help. Gee, I want to go to Baltimore, let's have me drive around for 15 miles on 495, that makes a LOT of sense. There are so many people on 495 who have no business being there, who have nothing to do with anything around DC. These poor people are forced to drive in that horrid traffic because there are no other roads.
They have to deal with beltway bandits everyday and they've got nothing to do with any of the crap going on in DC. My lord, not even part of this discussion, but if I want to even cross the Potomac, I have to take bloody 495 just to go somewhere in Western VA from here. That makes lots of sense.
So, some people have figured out we have an infrastructure problem (this ain't too subtle; it's a huuuuuuuge problem). There is only one way to deal with a lack of infrastructure: build more infrastructure.

B) You know there are major traffic problems, and they've been getting worse and worse for the past 50 years, but you don't care. You're old and you want to be left alone in your giant house on the prairie. You don't want a mega highway bringing noise and people near where you live, and spoiling your quaint countryside in central Maryland. Just imagine if we had to look at a road next to our large empty field of grass. The horror. Standing in the way of progress and development of the nation's infrastructure may also be one of your hobbies.

C) Development is bad. It's small and green in central Maryland. If we build a road then businesses will come, and <gasp>, we'll start development. People will want to set up shop on the road and sell sell sell to everyone passing through there everyday. Before you know it we'll have mega marts and super malls aplenty. We'll destroy nature with all of our concrete slabs and tar, and we won't have any nice empty land left to stare at. Central Maryland won't be empty anymore. That is bad, development anywhere, anytime is bad.

To the A types I say, you're right. The B types I say, tough. To the C types I say, well, the highway is limited access and a toll road. You can almost guarantee that those two factors will heavily limit over development along the road itself. Will that bring more and more people to central MD? Yes it will. Is that bad? No it isn't. First, you can take some of the load off of Fredrick and other northern MD counties. The main type of development coming in will be housing, not mega malls.

And that brings me to the real reason that people don't want an intercounty connector. They think it will drive down their property value. Yup, that's pretty much it, the whole argument.

To that I say, well, in two years you'll see that is pretty much a moot point.**

*the following is sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek. If you live in central MD, don't take offense, this isn't directed at you.

**when the housing market bottoms out.

Looks like I spoke too soon. I just got the exhaust in yesterday. I ordered everything a little over a month ago. Now that the cat and exhaust are here I will be putting them on this weekend. I'll make sure to take some video of the exhaust tone before and after and youtube it.

Spotted 6/3 in Fallston: Titanium / black wheels

Cruising home on 152 in Fallston yesterday at about 5:30, I spotted a Titanium Gray car heading West. Waved, but I don't think he saw me (in a bright-freaking-red car!). Anybody here?

Ha! Sorry I missed your wave. I was concentrating on seeing if I would be able to pass any cars in that one passing zone between Harford road and York road. At least they finally put that short passing zone back in Jarrettsville just south of Hess. It truly sucks getting stuck behind slow people on those 2-laners.

I live in Forest Hill and work in Timonium. My commute is quite a bit shorter, but we are on the same roads for a fair bit of it. Haven't noticed your car before, but my hours are all over the place. There are a fair number of 8's in Bawlmer and Harford counties. There's a VR that goes right past my house at 7:30 every morning like clockwork.

I'm going out to the cruise at the Abingdon Lowes tonight just for giggles. Not to show my 8, but just to see what's there. Also looking for a old-fashioned V8 shop for another car I have.

Yeah theres three just on base where I work....There is a VR w/just about the whole MS cataloge on it,,,, I haven't talked to him in person but Ive heard of him from the dealership(Bel Air Mazda) I get all my work done at. BTW if you need any help with part installs just go there ask for Mike Weatherman(Service), and Hieth is the only Mazda tech I let touch my car. I was thinking about going out to Lowes fri but didn't get a chance, alot of my freinds at work go(blue 350Z, tan G35, blue S14, gray Lotus Exige)

Ok so the install of the hi flo cat and borla went as smooth as an removal and install could go I suppose. Car drives well. No CEL but without a resonator its pretty loud. I am going to get in touch with http://www.mandrelbend.com/ to see if I can get one from them and have it put on the midpipe. I will load the videos onto youtube tonight.

Just spoke to the guys at mandrelbend and I'm getting everything installed friday hopefully. They seem like good people. Hope all goes well.

Hey, did any of you get a letter and DVD in the mail from Mazda recently?
I got a letter that says they're increasing my engine warranty to 8 years, 100k miles.
Actually, it's just the rotary housing and internal parts, plus gaskets an things.

But hey, pretty nice to get a new warranty. Italso came with a DVD, haven't watched it yet.

lol I guess so. I never check any threads but the ones I'm subscribed to.

Just read through the whole thread. Pretty interesting. Too bad a bunch of questions didn't get answered. Hopefully in the future they will.
