Mazda Corral at Lime Rock

As many of you know, the Grand Am Rolex and Continental Tire Series is again slated to come to Lime Rock Park this Memorial Day. LRP has given Mazda and Mazda Owners permission to partner with Castrol in connection with our annual corral, with the result that the amenities, give-aways and interaction with the Mazda race teams is going to be on a scale not previously seen.

By way of example, dyno's will be available for a small (I believe $20) charitable donation. Cases of motor oil will be given away, as will ball caps, t-shirts and other swag.

We always get a really good turn-out for this event at LRP. This year we're hoping that we really blow the top off it and see a huge turnout among the RX-8 guys. We can't have the Miata crowd driving off with all the cases of oil (assuming they can fit it), when we need it so much than they do. A post from folks who can make a firm commitment to attend, or at least think it's a very real likelihood, will go along way toward ensuring there will be enough for all. It would also be helpful to post your preference re grade of oil and we can pass that on to give them an idea of what to bring.

Feel free to post here if you think you're going to make it, and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Thanks, and hope to see you at Lime Rock!!

+2 here for sure!

Although I hope you don't get offended if I bring my 8 AND my Miata

Is this one grouped with NEPOC? I sign up over there too. Haven't bothered making it a 3rd by signing up with the Miata group.

And for oil...um, anything between 5w20 and 10w40 works for me, one of my Mazdas or another will use it

Woohooo! I can't wait! We've got about 20-25 people from NEPOC showing up...there's always a handful of random Mazda owners that show up...I hope we get a good rx8club turnout this year too! The more, the merrier.

Corral pass covers all 4 days, and we have dedicated space the whole time. Parade laps possibly just sat if it's as full as last year.

If you want to be in the Mazda Corral and participate in the Parade Lap(s) then you would need to buy a Corral Ticket (about $100) which gives you entry for the entire weekend (Thursday night thru Monday). The only thing you could get for just one day would be a regular day pass....you could walk over to the Mazda Corral but you wouldnt be able to park there or participate in the parade lap(s).

So you might as well bring a tent, camp out the whole weekend and watch some races! There's a ton of us doing so already.

a tent is not a bad idea for me BUT ... when you have a gf to LAG YOU ALL THE TIME that's just not possible

will see what happens ... 100 bux for just 1 day sounds kinda expensive for me

Yeah, if you get a corral ticket you only need to get your gf a regular admission ticket.

We're waiting for Grand Am to provide us with the actual schedule of events. Hopefully we'll be able to get it posted up soon.

I like shirts and would be interested in an adult large. Is it something I would have to pick up at the Corral? There's no chance of me being there.

Just sent it from jonathan_willis @ baylor.edu and paypal screwed it up somehow by putting the wrong address. It will still get to me, but I'd prefer it be sent to me as opposed to my parent's house lol. I'm about to PM you MY address.

Well I would love to go - but for someone of my limited intelligence, the Lime Rock schedule and ticket pages are simply indecipherable — more confusing than the instructions that came with my federal tax returns. So…

1) I'd like to come Saturday or Monday, me and my buddy. What tickets, exactly, do I need to buy?

2) Does the $50 day pass price cover both of us, or just one of us??

3) Do I need to buy any tickets in addition to the $50 pass?

4) If I want to see the car show on Sunday, what tickets would we need to buy to see that?

5) If we came just on Sunday, there's no parade lap. Right?

6) To do the parade lap on Saturday or Monday, what time would you guess we need to arrive by?

7) What's the difference between ordering "Daytona Prototypes" and NOT ordering "Daytona Prototypes"?

Thanks! I have a 5-year old RX-8 that runs purrrrfectly on 5W-20, of course.

The weekend ticket covers Sat through Monday
Each daily ticket covers just that day.

The tickets under "corrals" are for your car + it's driver. Anyone else that is coming but riding with you (or non-mazda) just needs a general admission

So to summarize, each person coming through the gate needs 1 pass for that day, somehow (weekend or day specific). If you want a car in a corral, then you need to buy 1 corral ticket per car, that also covers the driver's entry.

So my wife and I are going, bringing the 8. So I bought 1 weekend corral and 1 weekend general admission. If I was going to bring the Miata too, I would have had to buy 2 corral, but no general admission. If I wasn 't participating in the corral, it would have been just 2 general admission.

I do also agree that their ticket purchase section could use an overhaul.

The parade laps are first come first serve...kinda. Somewhere around 9am or so someone from Grand Am walks around the corral tucking papers on each car allowing it to do the parade lap. They run out of papers (car limit) at some point, or not, if there aren't enough cars. Last year I showed up as cars were lining up for the parade lap and still got a paper and got the lap. The year prior, they ran out of papers hitting the car limit around 10:30 or so I think.

So, generally just get there as early as you can.

If you want in on the parade laps I'd say be there no later than 10 this year. Most of us buy the weekend ticket and leave our cars in the corral overnight, so last year I woke up to find a number on my windshield. This year there's more going so I'd expect a lot of people for Saturday.

Just to let you know, the oil that Castrol will be providing is Edge Titanium, also we are looking to Sunoco and Grand-Am to provide us some gas cards as well. The parade laps are first come first serve, I have been able to persuade the track to get our members out on track if the missed the Friday or Saturday laps!
