Mazda Shop In MD?

Are there any good Mada tuning shops in MD, close to Bel Air?

All of the places I know are for V Dub's......

Simple answer is no,,,
And sometimes people use tuning in a generic sense, do you mean are there any shops that can put on bolt on parts, or do you mean are there any shops that can actually tune(software, as opposed to hardware) of the 8...

If you mean the later then no,,,

If you mean the former then yes there are several places you can go to install parts,,,

PFS is good for installing hardware, but again when it comes to the Renesis they dont know too much about the tuning.
The best place for you klanham is right in your backyard, Agile Auto Performance, right on 152 and RT1 they did all my suspension work and the next track event I go to thats where Im going for corner balancing,,,
They are STI/EVO shop but all thier techs are knowledgable, really good people and distributers of Tien, DBA, and alot more, you can get alot of discounts if those are co.s that sell products you are interested in...
I got my Tien Flex coilovers from them and was and they installed my AutoExe frame bars MS strut bars and RB sway bars all in one sitting,,,

I've never heard of them before. Where are they located, Belair? I do know what you mean about the renesis but I plan on doing a swap anyway and that is why I said PFS. Lol when you said right in your backyard, I thought you meant that literally. Oh yea how much did it cost you for them to do that in one sitting?

cost about $400 to install everything,,, that was 3 yrs ago so who knows now,,,

HELL, that is damn good considering coilovers and sways together. I will start looking for these guys to get my RB sways installed and my new coilovers that I'm about to order because These tein basics were just put on this past weekend and I'm getting pissed because I want them to be stiffer. the damper can't be changed but the spring perch can, any ideas? I guess I'm sitting at 1.5 in the front but damn this thing looks a lot lower than that from the front. pictures are on my album lol.

Yeah I have heard of Agile. I'm glad they are able to do suspension and things like that, that is what I was looking for.

Yeah, Agile is good with stuff like that, they won't do turbo kits on RX-8s or large installs, but they don't mind doing brakes/coilovers etc. They also do AccessPORT Pro tuning, but mostly work on STi's so don't have a lot of knowledge about rotary/Renesis tuning. Hill is a badass STi tuner though so he could probably figure it out. I used to work in the same building with Bobby, the guy who owns the Agile shop car, a 750 awhp STi time attack car. PF Supercars can do tuning for Int-X and such, but not AccessPORT, and they are not currently taking new appointments for work. They are like 40 cars behind right now and moving the shop to focus on more traditional repair work and less performance work.

PFS really need help nowadays, seriously these guys under Ray are not up to the task at hand, barely any responsibility.

That pretty much sums up Aarons experience with PFS in somewhat nice terms...

You can read my review of PFS here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/pf-supercars-turbo-installation-review-180431/#post3169933

I think RAY was just overwhelmed in a sense. He is a great guy to know but when you are behind too much then it is just hard to focus although you simply just need to focus regardless of what is thrown at you. I will continue to go to PFS and for anyone else that thinks about working on his/her renesis then know what you want to do, exactly. Those engines are something else.
Read Wings review and that just added on to what I was already feeling prior to this subject.

FWIW, in my research of shops in the Mid-Atlantic area that'll be able to protune my RX-8, Agile Automotive is the only shop listed on Cobb's website in MD, VA & NC as a Pro Tuner for RX-8's:

Agile Automotive
Subaru, Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi and Mazda RX-8 Pro Tuner

Link: http://www.cobbtuning.com/dealers/Default.asp

As a former '06 WRX owner, Hill has a great reputation in the Subaru community. When I'm ready to get my car protuned for STX trim, that's where I'll be going...

Hill does have a great reputation and people come from all over to have him do work on their STi's/WRX's, the things that kept me from turning my car over to him for tuning was the fact that Agile would not do the actual turbo install on the car and although Hill was willing to tune the car, he has never tuned a rotary before. He is very familiar with Cobb's software, but I don't know how many differences there are between tuning a boxer piston motor and a rotary engine, and I didn't want to be the first guy to find out.

I'll shoot Agile an e-mail to see if they've actually protuned a RX-8 yet. I'll report back...

This was Hill's response:
I'll tell you straight up that I have yet to tune an RX8 with the Protuner though we do own the software. I have tuned several on other EM platforms but all had forced induction of one variety or another. Tuning for these cars still NA is much easier especially considering how good our basemaps are with the Protuner. I have absolute confidence in my ability to properly tune for the RX8's complexities and infinite experience with the Protuner software so I'm sure the results would be very positive should you decide to use us for tuning.

As far as cost goes, we are not allowed to discount the AP or we risk losing our account with Cobb Tuning. I can however give you a discount on the tuning. Since you're racing I can give you $70 off the normal tuning price. So in the end the AccessPort would still cost $695 but the custom tuning would only cost $300. The process should take about 3 to 4 hours from start to finish. Please let me know if you would like to pursue this further.

From what I know of Hill from my years of owning a Subaru, I plan to step up and be the guinea pig. I have some mods to install this winter (headers, midpipe w/ high flow cat), but once I'm done I'll schedule an appt to pro tune my car (probably won't be until after the New Year)

I'll be sure to update this thread with my experience/ results.

yes, thier dyno tunning charges are $185/hr so thats $370, with $70 off that sounds like a great deal,,, the $185 is typical for dyno tinning,,,
