MTMA central NJ weekly meet - Sat. 11/13

This week the meet will be on Saturday night. All RX8 Tri-State Club members are welcome to join us.

We are meeting around 10pm in the rear parking lot of the Rt. 18 Market in East Brunswick (on the northbound side, on the corner of Rt. 18 and Tices Lane). While there, we will do the typical car meet stuff, talking about our cars, and any modifications we have done or plan to do.

From there, at around 10:30pm, we will cruise over to B&L Billiards in E. Brunswick for some pool. It is something different and something I think everyone can enjoy. After pool we're going to head on over to Applebee's for some food/drinks.

Hope to see some of you there, please let me know if you have any questions.

yah, this went down =p

we saw a silver 8 leaving tices as we were coming into the rt 18 market. i wonder if it was you. if you noted the directions were the back parking lot of the rt 18 market, not the front. it was a good location just a bit cold.

there were three rx8s, expo1, blueangel and myself.
there was a fc tII
there were 3 fds

[edit] : 1 mazda 6 (maybe two.. i cant remember)

and a bunch of proteges
and a honda =)
and a vw gti i believe

we then ended up at fridays in north brunswick on rt 1 near the walmart since applebees didnt have enough room for 22+ people.

good night overall bro, sorry you missed it.

Just wanted to thank everyone that came to the meet. We had about 15-16 cars show up.....some Protege's, Mazda6's, RX-7's, and RX-8's. I had a great time and hope you did also.

I'd like to take some time to tell you guys more about MTMA (Mazda Team Mid-Atlantic). Now I know you guys already have a local club specific to RX-8's. I want to say first off that we have absolutely NO intentions of trying to 'steal the show' from you guys. All of your members are more than welcome to join MTMA, and if any RX-8's join MTMA from outside your club, I'm definitely going to foward them over to you as well. I see no reason why both clubs can't coexist. Hey, we can even help each other out with some large meets...use the combined forces of both clubs to plan events bigger and better than either of us would be able to do ourselves.

But anyways, back to MTMA

We were formed from a group of Mazda Protege owners from www.msprotege.com. People from the NYC & Philly areas were complaining about the lack of meets. So I stepped foward and started organizing some -- fun runs around Bucks County PA, a barbecue in Somerset, NJ, a fun run near Port Jervis, NY (with one SICK road let me tell you )....after a few successful meets people started talking about forming a club. So that's exactly what me and a few others did.

At first, we were unsure of whether to have this strictly a club for Mazda Proteges, or for all Mazdas. One thing that pushed us towards having an all-Mazda club was the fact that our 'home forum' (www.msprotege.com) has 'subsections' for nearly all Mazdas -- RX-7's & RX-8's, Mazda3's, Mazda6's, and Miata's. Although these sections are not as active as the 'main' Protege sections, we felt that the club should be open to all. I'm VERY glad we made that decision early in the planning process.

We've grown from a small handful of interested people in June 2004, to about 25 'active' and another 25 'inactive/new' members. This brings me to another issue I have to bring up - club dues.

The decision to collect annual dues was a tough one. Many arguments were made from the 'steering committee' - the 5-person group who discussed and wrote our policies and bylaws, which can be found at www.mazdateam.org/bylaws.html.

In the end, we bit the bullet and decided to charge annual dues of $30 for a new membership, and $10 for a renewal. Here is a list of some of the benefits you receive as an 'active' or paid member.

1. (2) MTMA decals for your car. About 2" x 7" to fit on the one of the side windows.

2. Free @mazdateam.org email account

3. Free homepage on www.mazdateam.org with information and photos of your car (I'm still working on this one, should be up and running soon).

4. Club discounts on products. Because we're new, we only have a few discounts available. We can get Amsoil at cost, a nice discount on car audio stuff through Dynamic Productions (usually the price ends up being close to the 'e-bay prices', but you get the safety of buying from a local shop that actually exists), and a discount on some performance items, again from Dynamic Productions. But we are working with other local shops as well as bigger names to get you more discounts.

5. Less financial outlay at meets. We use the dues money to pay for any required permits for meets, and for food for barbecues. So we don't have to go around collecting $5 from everyone to pay for food and utensils. Your dues already cover that.

6. We chip in whenever possible at 'social meets'. In September, a small group of us headed to HersheyPark in Hershey, PA, and MTMA was able to chip in $5 for everybody's admission ticket. We do little favors like that whenever we can.

Right now, with the winter and cold temperatures coming, we mostly are going to do meets like last night's -- where we meet up, and go get some dinner together, or go to Dave & Busters (www.daveandbusters.com), etc. MTMA likes to plan 'social events' just like this, instead of just having all car meets and events. Especially in the winter when it's too damn cold to do anything else!!

Once spring rolls around, we're going to start having more car-related events, such as car shows, fun runs, dyno days, and track meets. Again, your annual dues payment, should you choose to become a full member, will go towards planning those meets -- trophies/awards for shows, discounts on dyno days and track meets, etc.

PLEASE let me know if you have any questions.

Again, it was nice meeting some of you guys, and I hope to see you, as well as other local Mazda's, in the near future.

$30 is quite high.

Yeah I have to agree, I personally voted on $20 for the first year and $10 for a renewal. But $30 was voted in.

It was to cover our initial costs (website, decals, and other random stuff). Now that all that's covered I'm starting to push to lower that amount. But then we run into the problem of people who've already paid getting pissed off.

Do you have any suggestions?
