well guys, after doing a bit of research on events that are occuring, unless mazda pulls some kind of stunt in the not so distant future, it would seem our days our numbered.
as you may or may not know, the tokyo auto show is going on now(i think? lol most sites said october 24-nov4) and despite mazda's (rumored) promises to unveil the newest addition to the rotary family, they have done quite the opposite.
instead they told their plans of future change, change that included reducing the companies carbon footprint from their 2008 numbers by 30% in the close future
if you know this or not Mazda's cars, with the exception of the rx8, are pretty ******* good with emmissions today. so what does this mean?
theres only a few possibilities, one includes mazda's new project sky, more hybrids, and possibly the lack of a rotary powered car in its 2011 lineup
within my research of mazda's ideas, and there displays at the 2009 show, ive found almost zero talk about anything rotary or 16x related. and only one site mentioned in an interview with a head guy at mazda that with there new goals the "prototype" 16x, with its far superior reduction of emmissions and better fuel economy compared to the current renesis 13b in the rx8, still isnt even close to meeting mazdas standards they have set.
so...nobodys been talking lately, i figured this would be a good subject, ideas? theories? arguments? pulse?

Well dave our days are already numbered. If u noticed unlike piston motors we dont have any new parts. When we rebuild we keep buys used housings, used rotors, etc. But what happens when all these used parts break??? Then we get another rebulit with used parts.
Sooner or later all these used parts are going to be out of circulation.
What we need are companys to start making housings and affordable rotors. NEW!
So that these can recirculate in the community and keep the spirit alive.

dennis...i totally agree with you...except the "nobody makes new parts" you can buy brand new rotors and housings from mazda, as well as atkinsrotary and racingbeat.
affordable on the other hand....well i guess benny's phrase best suits that one..."gota pay to play" lol
but what i was trying to get at was more along the lines of having a rotary car still coming fresh off the assembly line
once we lose that, theres not much hope left..right now we are so heavily dependent on the rx8 as our sole supporter when it comes to newer generations of people/kids whatever to see these cars and fall in love with them to keep the rotary spirit alive. becuause quite frankly theres not a large group of people that are willing to spend money on an old car...its why 1/3 of the people here own an Rx8
if it starts trailing off at the end i apologize, im multitasking and not doing a very good job of it lol

Quite honestly ive lost all hope in new Japanese sports cars. Not that the newer ones aren't fun or exciting but there based to much on a "satisfy all market". late 80's and mid 90's Japanese sports cars were more of a niche market which is why there so sought after. No company has money to invest in another niche market right now, so i dont see it happening anytime soon.
Its like a wave of worthy Japanese sports cars then a sudden collapse.
90's ( rx7 supra skyline evo456 300zx 240sx vr4 etc)
2000-2007 ( s2000 evo8/9 sti 04-08 350z is300 etc)
I dont expect anything worthy to come out with out a period of down time (5-6 years). And the 16x isnt anything impressive to begin with. The figures there aiming for wont keep up with the current market (370z sti evo etc).
In conclusion lol. The rotary community looking for that 90's sports car feel, will have to just wait and hope.

I agree..... Too much time and money to make a market specific car.
When me and ben went to Dave he was telling us all the Crazy projects he would do..... Bigger Ports.... making your turbo motor Idle at 1psi (Which was sick!!!!)....
But he said 15k later u start running out of money... He told us that with enough time he can make it work, but to keep spending your own money is where it hurts.
