sorry, i logged out, and i realized that i needed to wait for u..LOL...

i don't think you need to gap it correctly if you use the RX7 sparkplugs...i think that's if you need to use RX8 ,....i don't know, i might be wrong...
can someone specify this?
steven
the rx7 trailing are physically the same length as the rx8 plugs however the electrode extends further then the oem rx8 plugs. you have to use a shim to get them to the oem tolerance. this only applies to the trailing ones.

AL's right they need to be shimmed i have the shims. Gaping is different then shimming maybe thats where the confusion is.

^ Gap im pretty sure refers to the front part of the spark plug specifically the area between the electrode and whatever metal allow tips your plug has its the area the current actually arcs at. Old school plugs sometimes were gaped incorrectly from parts stores so its like the clearance area between the electrode and the metal material. The shims actually are similar to washers that sit on around the screw area of the spark plug and it keeps the plug from going to far into the housing. I can show you tonight lol to make it easier its not that important in all reality unless you are FI and you switch your plug setup.

Example of gap.

You can run either or thats why its a preference thing some people say it matters other people will argue it doesnt in either case it works...lol..........Im running stock 8 plugs now which are supposed to be ok as long as you arent going over 9 psi to much then they start to get destroyed per charles r hill who i tend to believe.

Benny I meant to ask you can you use like a electric convection over to bake your parts? Like a bigger giant toaster oven as long as its big enough and gets hot enough it should work right?

quote from crh on why to use rx8 plugs instead of the "cheaper" rx7 plugs:

"Micro-tip spark plugs (Iridiums) were invented as a self-cleaning mechanism. As the current jumps the gap it takes the carbon along with it, thus the self-cleaning aspect. Iridium tips are best suited to do this as they can handle the current with tips as small as .03 and they will not wear away. Let's call the Iridiums the "RE" plugs.

Next up are the Platinum spark plugs. Nice, and better than copper plugs, but certainly not Iridiums. They are the "EQP" plugs and are what we call "FD" plugs. (Spark plugs do NOT go bad in the Renesis as often as people think. As has been stated, as long as the tip and ground strap are not worn so much that they increase the gap too much, they are fine and can be cleaned. Use a plastic-bristle brush and carb cleaner and they are as good as new. I have done this many times with my own plugs. This is axiomatic with spark plugs.) I have tried these plugs in my own engine and I noticed less throttle response and a duller exhaust note.

With an N/A Renesis engine, always use the Iridium plugs. Although it may seem cheaper to use the "FD" plugs, which are either the NGK BUR9EQ and BUR7EQ (which are copper plugs) or the BUR9EQP and BUR7EQPs (which are Platinum plugs), in the long run your performance will lack and you'll end up changing them often enough so as to make the cost equal. With greater grounding area available, the BURs will foul sooner than the REs. Even the EQPs are not quite up to the task of the Iridiums.

In our testing of spark plugs we have learned that with the BHR Ignition System the Iridiums last a LOT longer than do the EQPs (Platinum) and, most notably, the EQ (copper plugs)."

people get away with it, like benny did, but there is performance to be had when its at oem spec because that is where the tuning (timing and the like) comes in to kick that flame front onwards, the flame "expects" a spark at that particular location.. you move it in alittle and things change. maybe not noticeable, but i dunno about you but I like to make sure everything is running as good as it possibly can and as it was designed.

think of kicking a soccer ball, you want to kick it at a certain place to get the most distance... kicking it somewhere else it will still fly but not as far as it could be.

it turns out rx7 are 21mm and the rx8 plugs are 19mm. and yeah by gap i meant shim, a spacer or something to keep the spark plug from going in the last 2 mm further then its supposed to be.

hahahah welll the good news is, i didnt do that hahhaa.... i copied the front side of my car and did a free transform to mirror the left side (to get rid of my license plate hahaha)

you can tell by the top left edge of the left side marker and the lower left where the 99 spec lip meets the bumper.... after i mirrored it i smudged the lines to blend it in... i couldnt seem to get those just right...

WWDD?

ps you were telling me about the dodge tool right? that brightens spots up but what does the opposite of it?
