Dear TNC council,

I need your opinion on fd vs rx8 handling ...

I found an fd for sale today

has been fs for 2 years ... guy wants 9500 ... has a blown trubo for sure

103k, suede interior, original paint, pretty clean

has apexi intakes ... some sort of exhaust, and some sort of roll bar ... only rust I saw was on heater core lines and rad support

will compression test the motor ... I should be able to low ball this dude

Obviously ... I may be parting out my rx8

I'll start listing

Gauges (come with a custom wiring harness for cig lighter ... almost plug and play):
RB water temp adaptor
RB oil sandwich plate
Glowshift oil sandwich plate
Lotec Gauge pod
Block8head dual vent pod
Oil p, Oil t, Water t sensors
Glowshift gauges

Exhaust:
Racing Beat Dual Resonated Midpipe 2 o2 bungs
Rx7 store midpipe 2 o2 bungs, no resonator
MS 2 canister exhaust

Transmission:
AFE SS
Aluminum shifter bushing never used http://mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=02-8101-0000

Engine:
Greddy kit with upgraded turbo (water-cooled, 20g compressor, 2k miles on manifold, with AEM intake mod, all fixes done)
BHR ignition

Body:
Authentic MS font
Replica MS rear

Misc:
Cobb V2
Header Wrap Brand new never installed

Stock vs. stock I think the FD fails hard. Abdul believes that handling goes to the 8 after mods as well but IMO, both have such a strong aftermarket it's all up to how much you spend.

FYI, I am now moved in over in Stroudsburg PA. My 8 sits in Jersey City at the moment (while I'm in the office), so I cover I-80 / I-280 each way.

Found another member on the way in today, said he was on the forums, but the light changed before I got much more other than my username.

Headed home shortly, not sure the timing of when people are gathering where, so might be passing through too early to swing by this week.

Good point on how much you spend.....
But from what Ive seen... a lower power 8 with less amount of mods can hang if not out perform on a track.... u saw that video with the rx8 & lotus...... nothing handles like it.

as for the FD....
I would enjoy the 8 more before u part ways....... there's always FDs for sale... you might find something close to what you want....

I dunno. $400? I'm not sure I'd ever buy used twins. It's always a crapshoot IMO.

Depending on the track, I definitely agree. I think the 8 has an amazing suspension setup from the get go.

although i have to very much agree the 8 handles amazing, i think its more the owners of the fd's that are to blame for the lack of handling compared to the rx8

we are always in this huge number battle that we forget how bad were throwing off the balance of the car

where as the rx8 makes minimal power with an amazing chassis/suspension setup and because of the lack of power takes full advantage of its handling ability

if you really look at the setup, the rx8 basically has the same suspension design as the fd, mulit link rear, double wishbone up front with mazdas ppf reinforced drivetrain

kind of makes you wonder why RE A never really pushes their fd's past 500whp huh?

Interesting point about the modified FDs but I was always under the impression that single turbo cars were lighter up front or maybe the same weight as a stock setup since it has less crap inside the engine bay. I definitely think you have a point about the lack of power but the Rx8 chassis is definitely more rigid. I think the biggest thing that the FD has going for it over the 8 though is the weight and lower center of gravity.

well after watching this im fairly certain its the owners fault in choosing power over total balance

look at the 2 rx8's that kept up, they were fully built monsters, im almost positive the black one had a 20b

so in my opinion, and im not knocking either car, i think its more the owner building the car wrong or driving poorly then it is the car, because even fully built monsters both cars are fairly even

we only see stock rx8's go up against fds or other powerful cars that have poor suspension setups with to much power, once the 8 bumps up the power you start to notice how similar the cars really are

the rx8 was designed off the miata and the fd afterall

and honestly if the fd was so inferior then it wouldnt make sense how even today we still see them win races around the world

like i said im not knocking anything, just answering a question, both cars handle great because they were designed as pure bred race cars for the street

just build it right

can we talk about panspeed selling their car and IIRC it was like 15k us.....................................

idk im scared of my fd so ive never really really pushed it. all i can say is i DEFINITELY felt more comfortable pushing the 8. id fishtail down the turnpike doing 100 and not break a sweat or care in the world. that was with 3 passengers and none of them were phased by it either... the 8 handles like a dream.

you want our opinions but didnt give us mcuh to judge it off of....... rad mounts are always rusted. stock twins are around 350. well idk but thats what i would say lol
