rx8ya: depends on the dealer and the tech. generally replacement of the cat is a no-no. catback is fine, most intake are cool, that of course depends on the tech again.

any signs of motor opening (easy to spot marks on bolts), nitrous, ecu tampering or piggyback installation etc.

sometimes piggybacks will be ignored but the rx8 engine removal process that most of us do makes us unplug the pcm so its easy to spot wires not where they should be.

going down your list id only look twice at the ignition prolly.

so the dealer called me today and told me that actually the car has never had an engine replacement that the other dealer must have gave me the wrong diagnostics. it had 4 defloods tho. they ran a diagnostics today and told me that there is nothing wrong with the motor and their is no knocking that their cant be knocking because its a rotary engine and only pistons knock... (hmmmm) but they never ran the compression test so thats what they are doing tmrw and i have to go to the dealer tmrw and drive the car myself to describe to them what i hear with a tech in the car. also when i go tmrw i will be getting copies of the compression tests and the diagnostics test so ill be sure to post them so you all can see, and i will also be taking them to a rotary shop right by my house called irp...

on the EMDCS warranty printout when the car gets deflooded it's put down as "engine replac" on the emdcs, but with a quantity of 0, that means its a labor op not a part.

as for rotaries not knocking, thats wrong too. rotaries knock, its just that when they do its too late to save it.

me thinketh you need a new dealer.

what dealer is this again?? Just want to double check.

They are ******* you around, seriously. The flash they mention is MSP16...that was the LAST flash released like last year sometime...should've known that was available right off the top of their heads. (basically either they've not done any work on your car and been lying this whole time OR they're really bad at rotaries)

If they had to call mazda to figure out it needs plugs and wires then they've never worked on an rx8.... EVER. seriously. I would've tried plugs and **** the first day you dropped it off (i take that back, i probably wouldve already had you back happily driving in your fixed car at THIS point). did they ever TELL you the compression numbers yet? If not have them give you the readings for your records, they have to have a copy of it if the tech is gonna get paid for doing a comp test, and NO tech works for free .

when did you drop the car off? I can't believe you seem so satisfied after waiting 4 days for this. Seriously at my dealer we would've done everything theyve ACTUALLY done to your car in like an hour. almost a week compare to a few hours max (waiting times are lengthy by me sometimes)

Please do me a favor and when you go to pickup your car, dont sign anything don't do anything get your writer to go out to your car and make sure you're satisfied with what was done. i have a nagging feeling that they either dont feel like working on your car or they have no idea what theyre doing.

edit: just found where you said it was crystal mazda. pieces starting to fit in now. sllloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww.

glad to hear that.. sounds like a major case of dealer'idus. i'm new with that whole 8 thing but when i worked for chevy about 5 years ago, they would say things like the engine was blown or bad so they could get the warrany money. its pays more to get paid by the warranty then the customer. but hope the car is back to normal or better.. keep it updated
