Although it is a long ride - the most reliable rotary performance shop I have found is;

KDR Performance
8408 Kistler Valley Rd
New Triploi, PA 18066
(610) 298 - 8161
http://www.kdrotary.com/

Dave Barninger is the owner and is one of the best known rotary guys in the north east. He has tuned many Greddy turbo's on the 8, including mine and replacing my 1st engine and tuning replacement with the turbo as well. He is very honest, resonablly priced and a cool guy. He has worked with Scott from Mazsport over the phone trouble shooting many times and Benny from Greddy has been there.
Last time I was there, someone from Conn. was there for work on the 7 as well.

Thanks... I'll check out the website. I'm definitely looking towards a different turbo but great to know.

There is also JPRimports in southern Jersey. They had a meet at the shop a while back. I know they have a good track record with Rx-7s (both street and race machines) and have installed and tuned at least 1 Greddy Rx-8.

JPR and KDR are the only rotary shops I know in the area. If/When I need some work of that kind, it'll probably be at one of those 2 shops - both 100 miles from me. There are a lot of performance shops closer, but I don't hear of many that do good rotary work. Besides, if you're going to dump a few grand into upgrades and tuning, a $30 tank of gas to get there and back is the least of your worries.

That would be completely ideal...

Acosta is ok for mechanical modifications, mine was the first Greddy turbo install they did and they installed my boost and A/F gauges, BUT from experience, they are not known for tuning the Greddy setup. As of last year, they had no interceptor experience.
Although I have no experience with the shop in south Jersey, so I can't speak about them -having learned the hard way with many others - the only reliable complete rotray shop is KDR Performance in PA.

Thanks for all the advice. I don't plan on going with a different induction system than the Greddy, but still want a shop that has rotary & turbo experience.

Yo Brian...

Had I seen this post earlier I would've recommended you goto T and R Racing in Jamaica Queens. Tony is the owner and he is a great guy with a clean run crew. Give him a call at 1.718.725.0179.

I've had my RX7 Tuned at KDR and Dave does a great job, but if you don't want to travel that far Jesse Martello in Somers, CT is an excellent rotary mechanic. He's done all the work on my FD as I've learned it about and is actually certified by Mazda to work on rotaries. There's a yellow RX8 in the area that he did the Greddy Turbo setup on and he also has an FD himself. If you want his number let me know and I'll post it but he def knows his stuff.

KDR actually just moved in PA, so I'm not quite sure where Dave's new shop is. It should be listed on their website KDRotary.com. Jesse works for Moranda Mazda in Manchester, CT but has his own shop located at his home so I don't really want to give out his home address. His cell number is 860-978-2687. Just give him a call and tell him Matt told you to call him. He's listed as a mechanic in the NE section over at rx7club and he does great work and he's really the only person I'd trust with my car unless I was driving down to KDR.

This is KDR Performance new adress - I have been to his new shop which is smaller but more manageable than his last shop and is actually a little closer to this area. If you call, you will have to leave a message but Dave will call you back. It is worth the trip.

Holy **** - this is right near my son (my son lives in New Tripoli). I drive past it at least once a month. There is nothing out there, but great area to take the 8 out on a run. Lots of twisties and hills.

Hopefully before too long I'll need a recommendation for a NY/NJ area shop to put on the Axial FLow SC.

Update

So I called both T&R and Acosta to get a price on installing a Christmas present. T&R not only gave me a quote of almost twice as much, the guy I spoke to not only gave me a hard time about having the work done on a Saturday, he began asking me questions on installing it. Almost seemed like he didn't wanna bother with the install.

I'm definitely gonna head over to Acosta in a week or so. Thanks for the all the input guys.

-Brian
