NYC to NH: RX-8 or Amtrak?
Happy holidays, everyone.
I'll be visiting friends in NH this Christmas, and was planning on driving up (with winter tires, of course). Normally I like to take the backroads (more scenic, fewer trucks), but with all this SNOW, maybe I should take the interstate.
Or maybe I should leave the 8 home and take Amtrak. $121 each way. One train and one 1-hour bus ride. 'Bout the same travel time as driving.
What d'ya think?

normally i would say just drive but with the snow that was just dumped on us, i would take the train and bus. the 8 would probably be fine but with the holiday drivers on the road and all the snow that just dropped, it will be slow going. let someone else do the conducting and driving while you take a nap and be glad your 8 is safe at home.

How much driving will you need to do once you arrive. With rare exceptions, I find rental fleets a letdown (though I don't terribly mind a Shelby GT-H if I'm travelling to an area that has one) and I prefer my RX-8 to any car rental option I've tried to date (including the aforementioned Shelby).
If, on the other hand, once you arrive, you're done for driving until you head back, then I'd leave the RX-8 safely behind and take the train.
The traffic on Friday in the snow slowed my trip home to an average of one quarter my usual speed or less. My commute from Englewood Cliffs, NJ to Stamford, CT usually takes 50-60 minutes and on Friday afternoon, despite having been let out of work early, it took me four and a quarter hours to get home (left work at 1:15 and got home at 5:30). I've driven to D.C. in just about that amount of time!!!
If your trip to NH is similarly impacted, trust me, driving is just going to be more hassle than it's worth, in my opinion.
