hey guys i have a 05 ng 8 and the other day i went to do a oil change at my job and my undercarage was wet with oil and i found that is my drivers side oil cooler line it seems easy to do i also work at a shop i am mechanicly inclided i was wondering if i can us a steal breaded line instead of buying the 300 dollar assembly that gives me to oil coller lines ? im kinda tight on cash thats why i wanna get the steel line .. if u can help me out that would be greatly apprecated ...

My driver's side lines going into the oil cooler were the first place OEM lines rusted through on my 04 MT too. Not saying your situation is exactly like mine was, but just looking at the rest of the lines/fittings once I got my first leak made it obvious that more would be occurring soon, so I opted to replace the entire plumbing from the block out to the two coolers.

Researching this back when I did my work, it was looking like a ridiculously expensive proposition. What I also found in my research was that Mazda had put together a recall for this problem in Canada, but had not extended that recall to the US. So I took those pieces of data to my dealer in ManchVegas, NH and asked them to talk to Mazda NA about getting me in under the Canadian recall. This Mazda NA would not do, but what they did do is cover all parts (which was the big chunk of the cost to replace) and I covered labor.
