Hehe, actually I reecently just relocated from Boston and now reside in Delaware. I've updated my profile to avoid any further confusion

The great caliper caper or how I learned to love my 8 while reinstalling wheels.
So I got the bright idea this afternoon to start the ever so popular paint your calipers mod, what a great idea.....
I started with the right intentions; I only wanted to get the rear rotors and calipers done tonight and finish the front tomorrow afternoon. I went to Advanced Auto and bought the recommend duplicolor caliper paint kit. Took the time to scrub everything down with brakedust remover. Both calipers came off easy. The passengers side rotor came right off in my hands. The drivers side is where I ran into problems.
A couple of light taps with a rubber mallet. No luck. Couple of harder taps. Nothing. Sprayed the whole rotor with WD-40, couple of more whacks. Damn thing would not budge. I had this happen on the protege before so I moved up to a 5lb sledge with a wooden block. Finally it came off.
Everything from that point forward went okay. The paint, black, was a great choice and I really like the idea of brushing rather than spraying. I also took the time paint the heat shield flat black with high temp paint. Then it was time to put the wheels back on....
Passenger's side went on fine. I torqued all the nuts to 85 ft/lbs. Then the drivers side; from what I gather I must of somehow whacked the top of two of the lug blots with part of the sledge. All the lugs threaded on by hand fine however when I got about 1/3 of the way in with these two they got incredibly hard to torque well over 100 ft/lbs just to get moving. As soon as I noticed this I tried backing them out, another mistake. I did manage to get them off but the threads are totaly shot for about the first 1/8 of an inch on either blot.
I broke a forged alloy c-clamp trying to press one of the blots out. So now I'm left with trying to use a thread chaser.
Not a good way to start a 500 mile trip to the meet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I love GOOOLD
iTrader: (1)
first....call the parts store and make sure they have replacement lug nut studs. if they do, heat up the wheel hub with a torch (hand held ones) and then hammer it out. make sure to hit it dead square. get new lug nuts as well.
do this is if the thread chasing fails...good luck.

sorry to hear of your demise MG!!
just as an FYI, when I did my calipers I didnt take them off...painting with duplicolor by brush is very easy to do without taking everything off...I just taped off everything that was necessary (which really wasnt a lot) ....the pad mostly...
hope you are able to get it together for the meet...
good luck!!
