snow today!

Car did awesome in the snow: I haven't really driven in the slippery stuff for a while, so I forgot a lot of things.

These snow tires make all the difference. Braking is on point and straight. DSC works great to catch the slides. The car is very easy to drive in this snow and really the only problem is when you're in over 5-6" of snow. I had to do some technical driving to get out of a snow covered parallel parking spot. Easy did it, just a little rocking back and forth, apply just enough gas to get the wheels start spinning (don't spin fast) and I was out.

Cars not so bad with the Blizzaks on the 350Z's wheels....

Except that I couldn't get it out of the driveway this morning. People on Rt. 9 in Newton LOVED me this AM with my car half in and half out of the driveway not going anywhere.

Yesterday was crazy, even this morning the roads are still all covered in snow. But WOW is she fun in this weather with a set of Blizzaks on her. Only time I run into trouble is climbing hills, and sadly I live in NH, we have more hills then you can shake a stick at.

I didn't have too much trouble with the snow here in VA...at least when it was packed down. I definitely got a little stuck (even with winter tires) when the snow pushed up and higher than about 6 inches.

Interesting problem came out of going through the thick stuff, though. I know have all sorts of snow (which froze to ice) stuck up in my front grill/scoop, in my wheel wells, and all my suspension parts. My car is making all sorts of weird noises now from all that stuff stuck in there. Anyone else have this kind or problem?

I'm really hoping its just ice/snow frozen to my car and not damage done by the snow, which the freezing rain turned into ice.

Drove around Worcester today. Overall, no problem, except for this one steep unplowed street, couldn't get up that hill. The snow was too slushy. If it was just packed snow, I think I could've had a chance. So had to back out. Oh well. Did a little DSC-off driving in a parking lot I still have much to learn.

But of course, when I got back, the car was half white... salt salt salt!

Got a fair amount of snow yesterday. Drove in the aftermath this morning. Took some detours through some snowy roads. DSC on this car is amazing.

Here's a photo after a bunch of driving through piles of soft snow:

I've been without my 8 for 10 weeks now... today I went to where it's stored to put the battery back in it and make sure everything was okay. I have to take it to the dealer this week to get my ms dual installed along with a few other things.

1) I can swear I never knew you had to fasten your seatbelt for the car to start... maybe it's because I always put the seatbelt on as I get seated in the car. Tried to crank it twice before my friend said "Did you try putting your seatbelt on? Maybe that's why it dies"

2) OMG... let me tell you that hearing the engine at 9000rpm after enduring almost 3 months in my winter beater is GREAT! It started like a charm and the idle was very stable. Can't wait to take a real ride in it. Hopefully the snow we got this weekend will melt a bit during the week.

Nah, you don't have to put in the seatbelt to start it. I think you just needed to crank it a few times.

Well that didn't make sense... I was like "why doesn't just refuse to start like when you don't have the clutch down, why does it shutdown everything? Doesn't make sense." It wasn't even cranking, everything would just go dark. But as soon as I put the seatbelt on, the seatbelt light went off on the dash, I turned the key... and it started without any hesitation! Coincidence I guess.

I don't really have it back right now since they're still getting all the snow from saturday off the street (1 foot of snow, narrow city streets...) and I park in the street *cringe* so I left it in the garage where it's been since Dec. 30th.

Ughh... want... my... 8...

.
Anytime it goes below 30 degrees my car creaks and rattles so much I feel like the car is going to fall apart. I am sure with all that wet snow that was on the streets, anything that got stuck just turned to ice and is cracking and falling out.

Wellesley Mazda wasn't amused by my 350Z wheels and Blizzaks when I went there last week They did clean her up really nice though and she managed to stay clean through the storm last week and even today on the way to work.

Why weren't they amused? Didn't like the fact that they are non-TPMS rims?

I just washed my car last night, she's pretty clean except for little splatters of salt from driving through some wet stuff.

Jeff said he got a dirty and unhappy look when he asked them not to rotate the tires because the wheels were from a 350Z and staggered set up. Oh well.

I am sure they'll do the same thing again when it goes back for the dipstick TSB service tomorrow.
