Question for Virginia RX-8 owners (or soon to be owners)
Does anyone know how "****" Virginia police are about front license plates? I really don't like the way the RX-8 looks with a front plate, and I'm debating whether or not to install it. I've heard some states really don't care much about it, but I suspect Virginia will be more stringent.

Virginia police are very '****' when it comes to lobbying the legislature to kill any bill that includes elimination of the front tag requirement. However, several people I have spoken with routinely do not have the front tag on their car (RX-7s and Miatas). It's in the car having "just fallen off recently".
I 'think' it is one of those offenses where they shouldn't stop you if that is the only violation they see. As has been mentioned elsewhere, visit DC at your peril without a front tag. They are more likely to ticket you than Virginia out of spite and greed.

Some police are more strict but others are not. If you get pulled for speeding they might write you up for that offense also. Just dont go on a military base without a front tag!!! They are **** about the front tag being off.

The district will ticket a Virginia licence plate holder for not having their front plate on?
This seems extreme, since you are not technically offending any District laws.
Good information to know, because I will be one of the non-front tag Rx-8 owners when I finally can afford one.

I agree that the front plate looks bad. If/when I get an RX-8, I plan to hold off on putting the front plate on. I figure it's not a "points" offense, just a fine, so I'll keep it off until I get tired of paying the fines. :D

Yeah, VA cops do suck. They bust me for my exhaust and lack of front plate, even though my RX-7 is registered in PA. I just walk into court with a smile on my face and win everytime. Take your chances, but have a worthy alibi.

They are **** about EVERYthing
As a fellow Virginian, let me assure you, the Virginia police (and the state police especially) are **** about EVERYthing. You will be gigged on that missing front license plate. I guarantee it. Maybe not for a few months, since nobody might notice it for a while, but one day you will get noticed, and it will not be fun.
I speak from personal experience, since I was gigged once for not having front plates on my other car, a DeLorean (it was sold in SC so it came without front plate mountings). As ugly as the front plates look on the RX, it will be much less fun to pay $50 or more when you get caught.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's my experience.
