Look what i found.

2006 Mazda RX-7

With the launch of the RX-8, Mazda has a unique platform, one that it does not share with any brand within Ford. To help justify the business case for this platform, the company must build more than one model on it. Our recent discussions with engineers in Japan have revealed that they are working on the fourth-generation RX-7 sports car. With the RX-8's new 250-hp rotary engine and a weight of about 2700 pounds, the car should be a worthy successor to previous RX-7 models. The 2006 version will be available as both a coupe and a convertible. And since Mazda has created its own performance group, MazdaSpeed, you can expect a turbocharged version--with as much as 100 hp added--a few years after the car's reintroduction.

Yeah, Mazda has always said they will make another 7..the 8 is just a test to see how many people will buy a Rotary and work out any bugs in Renesis and build capital so they can invest more in Rotary development. There will be an RX7 and a RX8..

There are also rumors that it will be a super charged 3 rotar.. but every thing is just a rumor at this point..

Personaly I rather them just fix the 8 and find away for the "Lazy Rotary Owners" not to flood their cars...

I mean how hard is it just t wait a minute before you drive your car and shut it off?

If the build it it will probably cost more than 50k not a problem for me bu the rx7 didnt sell at 36k so why not make it a little cheaper. O and remember my wifes little brother hes getting a g35 coupe with a six speed for his graduation gift even though he failing 5 out of 6 classes thats crazy.

Yeah thats nutz..

Nah..they will not make that same mistake in selling that car anywhere near 50k... That was the demise of the 3rd Gen 7.

I can seet being like 30-35. But then again...my 8 was 33k..

Don't know if you saw this tidbit at Rotarynews.com (http://rotarynews.com/view.php?id=230). Personally I think if Mazda released an RX-7 with the current RENESIS, the RX-7 fanatics of this world would freak.

He got the car because he can fail that many classes and still graduate now that's real skill. :D

Yeah, they always say "we have no plans in bring or making the car". Only time will tell but I am sure the 7 will be back in the US soon. They said the same thing with the Subaru WRX and Lancer Evolution.

I do hope they keep it turbo charged.

AFAIK, they plan to widen the rotors for any possible development of the 7. Widening each rotor housing and rotor 10mm would increase the displacement to a mere (heh) 1.5L. This is what they did in the past during the 70s and displacement is an easy way to add power without the engineering challenges of adding additional rotors (just design the manifolds slightly wider and make them larger to compensate for increased displacement).

Would I freak? Sure. Would I be slightly skeptical of believing the rumors that have been abound for the last two years or so? You know it.

They also make it seem as if Mazdaspeed hasn't been around...they've been around for a pretty good chunk of time now. If anything, I'd expect something from MS being turbo'd...just look at the MS Miata, the concept AWD turbo'd 6, the MS Protege, etc, etc. The only problems with turbocharging is it adds complexity to the engine bay while retaining the notion of passing US emmissions...(eeech).

Personal news: Still waiting for a halfway decent weekend (read above 45F...I hate tapping my knuckles on something and them bleeding) for the clutch....

Just to clarify my comment, despite all the "economics of multiple platforms" hype, I really don't think RX-7 people want an 4th Gen RX-7 that has the exact same RENESIS as the 2004 RX-8. You would not be happy! It falls under the heading of "be careful of what you wish for, you may get it".

However, I agree that the engine has a lot of potential (turbo, increased displacement, etc) that, if developed, would be a fine 4th Gen powerplant.

The Renesis design (side port and other differences) is here to stay but that doesn't mean you can't add a turbo to it.

I would rather see them increase the rotor numbers to a triple rotor, the 20B was a monster.

Since heat is an issue I think an extra rotor would be better than a turbo.

If they make it i will sell my rx-8 and buy one. Sounds like it will be a nice car. Right now im just checking around different dealerships so i can trade mt sc430 in for a 2004 ls430 while my wife gets to trade her lx470 in for a porsche cayenne. I cant believe she's paying 89,000 for a new suv but hey she spoiled.

This forum has taken a giant leap backward.....no more focus on our 8s and its unique problems (or our unique problems here in Richmond)....but instead, like little boys and their Xmas toys, it's whose daddy got them the biggest ........let's stop comparing ***** here! Afterall, Elara is not interested.

On to the snow we have here in Richmond and our 8s, the winter tires do make a huge difference. If you depend on your 8 for your daily drive you do need the tires....they do work. I took my 8 out Monday morning in that snow, drove it to work, just to "test" mine and it was fun...of course I had several people tell me I was crazy to be out with it since there were so many nuts out there running into others.

xr8tee, I am sorry you feel that way. We love our 8's and this is a section on ricmond RX8's. But it doesn't mean we can't talk about other cars. I mean there is only so much we can say about the 8 at this point. I don't mean to scare you off, nor 10k. It doesn't hurt to discuss other cars at time.

10k..You are new to the forums. I will tell you that personal attacks no matter how slight are not tolerated and can get this thread closed and members banned. We don't want that to happen to you or anybody that posts on this thread.

Elara could kick you off for that last statement. But, she is being nice cuz your new. I am not a moderator either. But this is a thread that I started and I would like this to be a place where we can all feel comfortable to post. We would like to have ALL Richmond RX8's to come and post here in comfort. Please don't attack our memebers.

Just like the meets. ALL ARE WELCOMED.
