With the chip you might get better gas mileage. I am sure the chip remaps the fuel and lean out the mixture to give better combustion and less unburn fuel. However, with the mod I would think you need to replace your cat with a high-flow or straight pipe to prevent heat build up from hotter exhaust.

I don't tust Canzoomers Stage 1. Plus, the PCM codes will log the increase in fuel and air even if you do pull the mod out from the ecu houseing. I am not going to jepordize my warrenty.

I would like to see some long term reports.

We can still get some great performance out of the 8 w/o messing with the ECU.

I think I will take that rout.

Anyway, we can talk about it over Thai food tonite!

Noh, you can reset your ECU by unplug the batter and let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes.

You can get more power without touching the ECU but it won't fix your fuel consumption problem.

Yeah that person is getting about the same response as me. They offer to do a straight up trade then they never return my calls. I finally got in touch with a supervisor at Mazda corp. and they are getting the dristrict rep to contact me. I seriously doubt now that I will ever get any reolution. I plan on writing a spirited letter to Mazda when this is all over and CC'ing it to NBC12 and any news paper I can find. I doubt this will accomplish much but atleast I can maybe help to prevent others from buying a car that Mazda lies about!

9K on the flooding issue. 90% of all reported flooding is happening to people with automatics. I have never had a single problem with flooding but reving up my engine to shut it off would surly drop me into the 10mpg range : )

Hanzo, have you seen what racing beat is going to offer for an ECU solution. They broke the code so they are going to be offering an ECU reflash. They have not announced prices yet but they do have a little info on it already. The only bad part is that you will have to send your ECU into them to get flashed : )

That is how most ECU reflash works. You send it in using Express mail, prob. takes 2 days to get it back. Usually an ECU reflash cost around $500.

$500 is a bit pricey considering that you can get the piggy back one for 600$. If you take the car in for maintenance and they happen to re-flash your ECU you would be out $500 or would they do a re-flash?

$500 is just a guesstimation, that is what most ECU reflash cost for other cars. It could be less or more for RX8. To my knowledge if dealership reflash it (they shouldn't do that), then it will need to be reflash again.

Sometimes factory ECU will override piggyback type chips so for 100% manipulation reflash is the best.

Not 8 related, but there are pictures of our soon-to-be new house at www.elysianplains.com/album/house for anyone that cares to see them. I said at dinner I'd post them, so there they are. Nothing fancy, but we're excited about it!

For some reason I click on the .gif it won't load up. BTW for photos use .jpg, it will look better and the file size will be smaller than .gif.

Wow! great house! You know brick and siding have been overdone, I applaude your use of Tyvek wrapping as your exterior siding.

Very classy, isn't it?

We're going to check on it tomorrow, and the siding should be up. I know Tyvek is the fashion, but it just gets so many holes it..And anyway, the neighbors all seem to be copying us...:p

Thanks guys

And Hanzo, he says next time he'll do jpgs- we literally just tossed them up there, and he resized them pretty fast and wasn't paying attention.

You didn't happen to determine who our troll was yet, did you? If it was either of the two we discussed I'm going to give him a beating when I see him next...:D
