RX-8 Dyno Day June 18, 2005
Hi all:
I'd like to see what kind of interest there would be for a dyno day on Sat, June 18th. My local Miata Club has gone to Performance Dyno in Concord, NH and have had excellent reviews from the guys who run the facility. Pete and Eddie at Performance Dyno have experience tuning all kinds of car's from Corvette's to Mustang's to Miata's
The price for 2 consecutive runs is $40 and for 3 consecutive runs is $50. They allow the owner to operate their own vehicle while on the dyno. There are monitors from the drivers view and from the side to see how the car is performing during the run. They also offer "tuning" time which I am not sure of the price but if there is interest I can find out. Those with the Canzoomer ECU may want to take advantage of this option. Much easier to run at WOT on a dyno and tune than finding a road, do some logging, adjust accordingly, and then testing the results.
So who wants to throw their 8 up on the dyno and see what she really pulls at the rear wheels? Find out if that intake or exhaust has really done anything in regards to HP. Does that CZ unit really add that much HP? Come on down and find out!
Check out Performance Dyno's website and post up if you'd be interested in attending this event.

I'd certianly be intresting in attending... and I suppose I might take up the option to do two pulls as well... not sure about the 18th, that is way to close to my B-day I may need some recovery time! But keep me posted!

Pricing info for tuning...
$100 for approx. 1 hour's worth of tuning with unlimited pulls. Depending on how many people show for straight pulls, he can probably get about 3-5 cars tuned. The day is reserved for us so he's there until everyone is done.
So who's up for dynoing/tuning their 8? :D

Ok so where are all the New England folks who have 8's? Come and join us even if you don't want to run your 8 on the dyno. It should be a fun day seeing what stock and modified 8's can pull at the rear wheels.
Where are the guys I met this past weekend in Portsmouth? You guys interested?

That came out wrong but I think you got the gist of what I was saying. That it is hard enough to find an optimal date that works well for your own club. It is even harder to find a date that doesn't conflict with 3+ clubs.

Spin9K:
That was the whole point of tuning for the hour on a dyno. I want to see if I can tweak more out of the CZ unit whilst on the dyno. I'm sure SR would be willing to help us out. Right SR?

I'm expecting to see some low Hp numbers on the dyno as the ECU is likely to freak out once the coolant temp starts to rise above 190°. The important thing is just to find out what is the best number for making power. So far we have just been tuning the CZ unit to an air/fuel ratio of 13.5. Is that the magic number? We won't know until we get the car on the dyno and plot the Hp and torque.
Any adjustments to the CZ unit while the ECU is in safe mode will not be appropriate when the ECU returns to normal. So the whole point of this exercise is just to find the magic A/F number that yields the most HP and then road tune to that number.
For the rest of you guys I'd suggest using this time to do a couple of pulls to get a baseline. Then we can come back after road tuning the CZ unit to see what gains were made.

SR:
That sounds good to me. I forgot about the car and it reaching the 190 degree temp and then start freaking out. I would say it would be useless to run after 2 maybe 3 pulls because the engine would be heat soaked by then. Thoughts?
