"Skyline Drive" RX-8 Scenic Drive (VA)
Forecast for Nov 1st: Partly cloudy, hi77/lo54. GREAT driving weather!
**UPDATE 2**
RESCHEDULED FOR November 1st. Combined RX-8, Z-350, RX-7 drive. Heck, guess we could invite anybody, huh? Wouldn't a long caravan of RX-x's and Z's be on the highway? Who's GOING??
**
As promised in another thread, here is a proposed RX-8 scenic drive with Kodak Moments for Saturday October 18th. This drive will cover the northern half of Skyline Drive. We will have ample opportunities to stop and photograph our cars with the Fall color backdrops. Please reply if you intend to go so I know how many to expect. This is a GO if two or more RSVP.
We will meet at 9:00am (earlier if you want to get breakfast) to depart promptly at 9:30 from Bob Evans Restaurant in Vienna VA. Take I66 West to exit 60. Turn right (North) and Bob Evans is on the right at the first light. RX-8s will be at the rear of parking lot. Arrive with a full tank of gas We will drive west on I66 to the park entrance at Route 340 (est. 70 to 90 minutes). Anyone to the West that wants to meet near the entrance of the park we will have a pit stop at DICKEY RIDGE VISITOR CENTER Milepost 4.6 on Skyline Drive.
NOTE: If you live further south and want to meet us on Skyline Drive rather than at Bob Evans; plan your own route to get to our turn around point by 1pm.
There is a National Parks fee, $5 per person or $10 per car. (Good for 7 days if you get lost) Speed limit on the two-lane Skyline Drive is 35mph with lots of curves, gentle slops and numerous scenic overlooks.
Turn around point will be the HARRY F. BYRD, SR. VISITOR CENTER at Big Meadows, milepost 51 on Skyline Drive. We can have lunch here before heading back the other way. I anticipate reaching the turnaround by 1pm. This time could slip if we stop for a lot of Kodak Moments.:D
Forecast for Skyline Drive:
TBD
You can bring passengers along, too.

Z's and 8's could make a nice picture. Unfortunately, the drive (at least led by me) is a no go. Aside from the fact that Pure Tremble is the only response, I found out at the tech session Wednesday nght that there is a nail living in one of my tires. It is on the edge of the side wall and therefore not in a recommended spot for plugging. A new tire is on order.
In the meantime, I am traveling as little as possible so as not to disturb the nail in its new found habitat.
Any interest in rescheduling this drive for November 1st or 2nd?

extra tire; skyline drive
Carl - I have an extra tire, if you are interested - mine was plugged after a dry wall screw punctured it very near the center of the tread - but unfortunately [as may be your case] not after the new one was on it's way to me from Tire Rack.
on Skyline - that's really the north end of the Blue Ridge Parkway - it's a great drive I'm sure. I was going to try to go to that 2 years ago this w/e but traffic on 66 somewhere east of Front Royal was so slow and heavy I'm not sure how long it would have taken to get there and I had to be back to DC by 5pm so I did not make it. I'm doing the Heart Walk on Saturday morning in DC again so couldn't make it this time out. But perhaps another day!

Daniel - Thanks for the offer of your spare. I have one that will be mounted Saturday morning. If the nail did not puncture the interior, I will have a quasi-spare, too.
EVERYBODY- check the top of this thread for updated info. Gathering interest in doing this drive either November 1st or 2nd. Please reply if you are interested.

Everyone meeting at Bob Evans? If not, let me know where you intend to meet the caravan.
Wednesday Oct 29 forecast is partly cloudy, 61/38. Extended forecast will reach November 1st later this week.
