Teaneck/Hackensack RX8 Help!!
Hi Guys,
I need ur help as usual! I was using my RX8 today and i must say that being the idiot that i am didnt realise that the oil needle on my dash was actually for oil pressure and not oil level...and thus my oil light flickered as i was parking! Crap! Ok here are my questions...
1st : Where can i buy the recommended 5W-20 non-synthetic oil in the teaneck/hackensack area? everywhere i check has the synthetic version only...also is Castrol GTX good?
2nd : Is it ok to drive with the oil light flicking to buy the oil?
3rd: How much of the oil in quarts should i put? and how much will it cost?
Thanks guys! Im not a real car tech person as u can see! So any help would be much appreciated!!

1.) I ain't from Joisey, but any auto parts store or Wally-mart or anywhere should have 5w-20 oil non-syth. A lot of people run with synthetic any way and running it on little or no oil is far worse, you get something in it!
2.) No............at this point drive it no futher! If you do...do so at your own risk.
3.) Don't you have an owners manual? Put one quart in at a time and keep reading the dipstick until you get near the full level on the dipstick. I'm not gonna tell you how many quarts you need because you should have a manual, you should read it, check the oil level now, and fill it up like you should. Cost........not in Jersey, but if you can't afford three quarts of oil, you should be riding a bycycle.
Not having an owners manual is not an excuse whan it's a free dowload at www.mazdausa.com in the "Owners" section.
Read it........Learn it.......live it.
Oh......and check the level every two fill ups in your case.

another quick question...i managed to buy Castrol GTX today...but is it ok to top the oil off without draining the old oil? because i dont know what the old owner used in it? is it wise to mix the old and the new or should i get it drained????

Andrew......of course it would be better to go ahead and drain the oil and put a new filter on at the same time. But the reality is you need to put oil in the car.
Don't just drop some in there, but actually put in a quart, wait a few, check it, and then add more. Repeat until you have it reach the full mark.
BTW...............when most people do an oil change, even after draining, they still have old oil still in the system because it sits in the oil coolers, so over 95% of the people have a mixture of old and new in there. They only way to get it out of the oil collers is by jacking up one side of the car and then the other, but you still won't get 100% of it out of there.
Now..........you know from now on you should check that oil about every two fill ups and add oil as needed. This car burns some oil, it supposed to, so get use to it. And................ if you don't want to damage or possibly kill your engine, you will head my advice.
