Tech Day 4/24/2005
#76
Hey guys, I'm down with cold and I think I'll sleep in. So I'll pass on the 7am meet. Regardless on whether I get better tomorrow morning, I'll send spin9k an email of whether I'll be coming up.

Roger et all:
Just wanted to thank you for hosting a great tech day today. Even thought I didn't do anything to my 8, it was great to see some new faces to the gathering. Can't wait for the new tech day. Keep in mind I'm thinking of doing up a dyno day for 8 owners sometime this summer.
Thanks again!
PS loved the web cam

Had an awesome day! I think we had 9 8's at one point, and a great bunch of people all helping out.
Can't wait to get together and do it again!
If anyone is intrested in the spring run or has questions, feel free to shoot me a PM.
On a sad note... we seem to have two casualties today... a 3/16 1/4inch socket and a 21mm 1/2inch socket seem to have gone MIA... if any one finds either accidently stuck on the end of a socket wrench or tork wrench, please let me or Speed Racer know :-) Thanks.
But on the whole, considering all the work we got done... I'm amazed we didn't loose more!
Spin9k, thanks again for hosting, and for the CD when it comes out, I can't wait to see all the pics.
And to those off to the track Wed. Best of luck!

First off, I want to say thanks to all of the guys that braved the weather and the long drive. You guys made it worth all of the effort. I think that we got a lot done considering that we only had one dry area to work in and were doing a fair amount of socializing.
- brake job
- clear corners
- rotary accents
- oil change
- new diff/tranny fluid in a couple of cars.

Click "Large" or "Original" below each photo to see the more detailed hi-res versions (I have unlimited bandwidth/space and can host photos for anyone). We had 9 cars, but one left before the photo shoot on the shore.
Big thankyous to Spin9k for hosting and to Speed Racer for the help... that was a blast! Learned a few new things, met some cool folks, and had a nice drive. Going through downtown Portsmouth in a convoy of 9 RX8s was cool... the weather broke before the drive so there were lots of people milling about. Many were pointing and saying things like "Wow, check out all the RX8s!" Gotta admit... it was fun getting all that attention.
Wish I could join you guys at the track... have fun!
P.S. I brought a 21mm 1/2" socket and left with one. I doublechecked my tools last night but I'll look again later today to make sure I didn't grab anyone else's by mistake.

I just wanted to check in and say that this was a great get together. The weather was loosy on the run up, but broke right before the drive through town. I laughed at the old guy walking with a young kid bowing as each car passed. Also got alot of attention passing by the cafe. It was the most 8's I seen in one place, including my local mazda dealer. Look forward to the next one, and maybe I'll have somethings to do on my car by then...
SpinK, thanks so much for hosting, it was awesome.
Speedracer, excellent, I learned a few things and have a few other idea of what I want to do next. Also want to thank My10, who was a ton of knowledge on mods. :D
P23, I hope you weren't late for that date...
Thanks all and see ya next time.
I got pics . I post/send this evening.

Hopefully they'll turn up. Otherwise it's off to sears! I always end up buying tools I don't really need everytime I go in there... real dangerous to go in only looking for one socket
With all the tools we had there, I think we did pretty well keeping them all straight... especially as they were all Craftsman and looked identical!
Was just hoping someone would find they had two... maybe one on thier breaker bar and one on there Torque wrench or something...
It was great having everyone there, what a great day! Can't wait to meet up again!

Hey guys! Thanks for the good times. I definitely had a blast at my first rx8club event and I'm looking forward to the next. What a great day! Good cars, good company, good times. Cruising back down 95 and 495 with Adam and Steve - fun with formation driving!
Thanks to Roy and Roger for all their engine expertise, Kevin for the accessories input, Justin for the eardrum workout, wifey for the food, and everybody else for the great company.
I learned a ton too... next on my shopping list: Oil filter wrench, torque wrench, drip pan, socket set, ramps, jack stands, the list goes on...
The 21.5mm socket... is it on the end of one of the torque wrenches along with an adapter that I used after torquing down the oil pan plug? I'm not sure if it's the same size socket that I used down there.
As for the date, I was about 15 minutes late, but I wouldn't call it a date. Just dinner with an old friend. It just happened to be dinner with a girl. I wasn't up until 4:00am like Justin was the night before . Just some Oishii, expensive and a long wait, but definitely worth it!

P.S. Pictures will be posted and sent to Adam and Roger when I get a spare hour from work.

Thanks for the suggested location on the socket, but that one is accounted for. It's no biggie, i'll just pick up a new one.
It was excellent having you there, can't wait till we get together again! It was a great day.

Color me embarrassed :)
I'm the idiot who took the 21mm socket (found it under my seat this morning... damn, all these Craftsman tools look the same). Sorry about that! If you PM me your address, I'll mail it today.

Cool, no biggie... I knew it probably just got confused with another Craftsman 21!
Ya know they're not the best tools out there... but for the price and the life time warrenty... it's hard to beat the Craftman's touch. I'll PM you an address... or if your attending the track day, just bring it along with you and leave it with Roy or me...
Now if we could only figure out the mystry of the 3/16... I have no idea what we would have used that for... and it is so small it probably is in a hole in the ground somewhere... atleast it's a cheap socket to replace. But at the moment it the only hole in Roy's set... and ya know how that goes... ones you have a gap in your set... gaps seem to start to appear all over the set

I agree, I don't think that we would have used the 3/16" socket for anything. So I'll check my garage for the missing socket. Not a big deal.
With the forecast calling for rain tomorrow, I think it would be wise to swap back to the OEM Bridgestones and save the Kumhos for another day. They just don't inspire a lot of confidence in the wet and I don't want to be the first one in the bunch to say that I spun out at the track.
