So what does everyone do when its bone dry out in the morning, but snowing on your way home? I hate winter driving period, and im afraid of getting stuck.

switch back?

Hey all, I am looking forward to the end of my first winter in an RX-8. I put the snows on mid-nov (and they have worked out fabulously - a lot of friends in normal FWD sedans say they've been spinning tires in all the snow this season, but I've hardly had any such issues. Tires make a huge difference!). I am curious for those of you who have driven in eastern MA for more than a year, when do you switch back? Do you wait for average temps to get over 40ish again, or do you wait till it's late enough in the year that snow is not too likely anymore? (those of you who live around here well know that just cause it's warmer for a few weeks does not mean we won't get hit with another blizzard, right? :P) Thanks and safe driving! I can NOT wait to get the normal tires back on - it's so frustrating to drive a car like this and have to hold yourself back, you know?

^ GTFO of our northeast section!!

Sculder (Scully + Mulder = Sculder??? lol) . . . anyway

I switch back in late March, and then assume the fetal position and cry if we get hit with late March or even April snow.

I bought mine in March (13th, 2006 to be exact) and had no problems that spring. We got hit with a storm that left a few inches and it sucked, but I was fresh off my Ford Ranger with spent tires, so it pretty much felt about the same as that.

i usually wait until our lows consistently get above 35 since i drive it pretty early in the morning to the gym and it's usually at the day's low. i think we have another month or so before i make the switch back.

End of March or MAYBE mid-March. Consistently above 35 is a good guideline. You just don't want to hit any ice with those summer tires... that'll be bad news.

Mid-March is dicey because we've had snow end of March plenty of times.

I change when convenient. I change my own, so if I end up doing it too early, I can always swap back if I absolutely have to. I did it in late March last year because I drove to Montreal in mid march.

Man, I'm itching to swap! Probably jumping the gun though...I should just have patience and wait another week or 2! Especially since we just had snow twice last week...next weeks forecast is decent all week though....hmmmm

Swapping mine today! Got a show to go to tomorrow, over 300 cars! Besides, it only takes me 15 minutes to do.

The weather forecast for this week has the high in the low 50's every day, but low around 30. But crap I woke up this morning and I want to swap them out BAD! I suppose I could just take my wife's truck to work if it gets bad...she's home with the baby for a couple months

Good plan. Any snow in late March/early April is pretty much a one day event down our way.

I wrecked her in an ice storm last year - had relatively new all season pirellis. Now I drive my 84 Chevy K10 if it dips below 40.
