Wrong. So very wrong. Lmao.
Go to a Mazda dealership and price the part. They vary by dealer but mine was $2400.00 (part only, no labor) replaced under warranty.
If you don't know why the rotary uses such an expensive cat/mid pipe assembly... Read.

Buy a cheap one and I can garuntee that **** won't last you six months. I'm a tech at honda and see tons of vehicles come in with failure of aftermarket cats that the replaced a few months back. If it ain't OEM cat I wouldn't waste my money...

When the hotter than normal, rotary exhaust melts the "innards" into one big homegenous "blob", I want to be here to read your post after the melted cat plugs your exhaust and causes your rotary to be the next in line for a $5k rebuild. Or, at the very least if you're lucky, it just falls to pieces and blows into your muffler.
Don't worry, I'll be here though to happily tell you what that "marbles in a can" sound you're getting is.

Well in that case, Einstein, you go right ahead and cut out the stock cat from the mid-pipe and weld your $100 Pep boys catalytic convertor in it's place. Just let me know when you do so that I can stand back and watch the hilarity ensue.

these arguments make absolutely no sense at all. a new engine for a car costs $5k, how much are you going to pay for a used engine with 75k-100k miles on it? Just because a new cat costs $1500 doesn't mean a used cat is worth anything close to that. A new alloy wheel from the dealership costs probably $1000, whereas you can get one on ebay for probably $100.

a new stock 18" alloy cost about 400-500 bux.
and a recondition 19" one cost less than 300 shipped.
As for the CAT, there are many aftermarket CATs with long warranty, just get one at AZ/AAP/ORLY/etc, if something happens bring it back to them they will replace it no questions asked.

and mind you, stock cat that cost 1.8K can fail in couple thousand miles too. been there and done that.

Today I went to the dealer to see what was going on with my car. Long story short I have low compression, and my cat is clogged. They offered to replace the motor under warranty but to replace the cat I have to pay like 1700...dealer says the cat needs to be OEM factory for Mazda to honor the warranty. Am I screwed into spending loads on the cat?

I am really interested in buying the cat, but i have to wait till my next paycheck which is next tuesday. If you still have it then I'm definitely buying it.
I also recently bought an 8 that ended up having a clogged cat, now i need an OEM cat so i can go to the dealership and get an engine replacement because of bad compression. (95K)
BTW, I live in Yuma, AZ 85364
