NY 04 Mazda RX8 starting, and power loss at high rpms issue.

Hey guys this is my first post to the forum but I have been looking around for the last month as I just bought my first RX8. The car is an 04, with 100k miles and original almost everything. After I bought the car I noticed a horrible loss of power to and from school (college) and after a search on the forum I was able to figure out that my CAT was clogged and I had to kill it. :D After I cleaned out my converter the power loss went away for about two days. Then I started to notice that at high RPM's (8-8500) there wouldn't be the power surge I was getting used to and the CEL would flash until I shifted into 2nd and the CEL would turn back off. After using my OBD II reader it was saying there was a pending code for a Cylinder 2 misfire. This weekend I'm going to change the plugs and wires (as they seem original and look never replaced) and the coils. If you guys have any other pointers on things to check please let me know!

My second issue is that whenever I stall the car, I'm still getting used to driving it, it takes like 10-15 minutes to get the car to start. The car doesn't have any issues starting hot or cold, only when it stalls. The car sometimes when it's cold out 20-30 F will rough idle for a few minutes while it is warming up. If you would happen to know anything about this also please let me know.

Did you have a rotary specific compression test done?

you really need to read all the newb threads.

replace ignition, clean maf, ess, 20 brake stomp, and get a comp test. most importantly read the newb threads

No I have not done a compression test yet, if the other fixes don't work then I'm sure to get one. 200, do you think cleaning and replacing what you said will address both issues?

Cleaning and 20 brake stomp are pretty much free, however before you put money into the car, you should get a rotary specific compression test to ensure you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to address the engine.

Thanks Hounds, I'm going to go through what 200 said first thing this weekend because I already have the parts warranted at my fathers shop then if that doesn't work I'll be sure to take it to a deal to try to get the test done.

I know this may seem like a dumb question but I couldn't figure it out from the diagrams, which set of plugs and wires is on the second cylinder. Is the second "cylinder" nearest the back or what. I'm not in any way, shape, or form a mechanic I'm just a kid that is following his father's footsteps and trying to learn it the best I can.
