05 RX8 Won't start

Hello I have a 2005 RX8 that won't start. I was driving down the road and it starting missing real bad until it just stopped running all together. Now when I try to start it the engine cranks real slow. I took the starter off and had it checked but it was fine. I checked my fuel pump to make sure it was running and it is I even pulled my plug wires and made sure they were firing. If anyone has any ideas of what it might be that would be awesome. Thank you for your help.

Did you run it out of fuel?

Having a tank fuel level sender fail is possible, it's happened a few times before on the forums.

Did the check engine light come on? Can you get any codes?

With the slow cranking, is your battery OK?

Ya I put a new battery in it and ya the battery light is on but I thought the car had to be running to check it with a computer.

If the battery light was on when the car was running, then it's almost certain that your alternator was not putting out. The battery would drain, then evenutally not have enough in it to run the ignition.

I'm not sure if you can read codes with the car not running. Instructions for a scanner I just bought, but haven't yet used, gives me the impression that you can. But if the CEL didn't come on there's likely nothing to read.

You could have the battery and alternator checked, kind of sounds like another person's issue just recently posted here. If you can get the codes there is a list on this board or enough people to steer you in the correct direction on what to do next.

It have nothing to do with the battery staying charged or anything like that the engine will crank over but it won't start up. I've checked to make sure it was getting gas and that the wires are firing and all that's working but when you crank it over it's like the engine isn't firing up it just cranks and cranks.

Are spark plugs wet? Gas smell?

I'm going to change the coil packs, wires, and plugs to see if that fixes it and if not I don't know what else to do.

Read manual before spending money on parts. I know, reading a manual is much harder than spending 200-300 on wires and coils.

I have read the manual and I didn't find anything in there that would help me with the problem. Unless I over looked it but I paid attention because I want to get my car back on the road.

The owner's manual won't tell you anything other than to take it to a dealer if something goes wrong. Troubleshooting chart in the shop manual would be useful.

Have you changed the ignition parts yet? Another possibility is that the catalytic converter failed. There's likel to be pertinent info in the last thread RIWWP linked. That starts off as a battery/starter thing, but goes on to discuss lots of possibilities.

I had already changed the catalytic converter about 6 to 8 months ago. I'm changing the coils, wires, and plugs this Friday and if that doesn't help I don't know what else to do.

My 2004 RX8 was really slow to start.. changed the spark plugs and it starts very quickly now...
Also have a fuel sender fail but as long as I keep the tank filled up it's not a problem so far..
