08 antenna of some sort
I took out my radio as I found cut wires under the dash when I was changing my cabin filters. Curiosity got to me so I wanted to find out what this rats nest of different wires was from. After pulling out radio i found a cigarette lighter adapter with plug and loose wiring that was cut off. After removing i found more wiring that looked cut off as the other was. Upon tracing wire it went to lil black box that had antenna inputs on it. Can anyone tell me what this adapter is for and if the 15 or so foot of wire is supposed to be connected to anything??? Anyone know what it's for??
thanks

It looks like one of those remote ignition disablers for people who lease a car ( if you don't pay the car won't start+GPS) I'd dig into this. Sketchy this is, apathetic yoy should not ..

It looks like part of an FM modulator that connects inline with the antenna cable.
Normal wireless FM modulators don't work well in populated areas with few open frequencies. Some of them try to get around that by connecting in between the antenna and the radio. It's basically a low-power transmitter but it will be the loudest thing on any frequency because it's directly connected to the antenna cable.
There should probably be another box that takes power and audio input.

I can verify that its not one of those. I had the Gps tracker out of my car within 5 minutes of being home.
I wish i'd looked into one of those when the wife and i was together. Would have made things a hella lot easier. lol.
tks for your thoughts.

- i'm not familiar with a Motorola plug; but what i think you are referring to is the male end of a antenna wire. there is a female end on the box. the end of the single (small) wire was cut off so it has nothing. As well the box has no markings or stamps on it.

Notapreppie I think you could have hit the nail on the head. along with the piece of hardware i listed there was 2 other things back there close to it. I didnt think it had any significance but you just made all the sense in the world. On the backside of my cigarette lighter was a female aux. power (cig lighter) plug hard wired in. with a cig. lighter male end and the wire going out of it. it too was cut off with no connector on it. Then there was a hell of a lot of thin guage wire stuffed under the dash and glove box area. Which would make perfect sense. There would have been a plug coming out of the 8B box to plug into the fm transmitter. The transmitter would have been powered by the aux power cord that was cut off and the wiring would have been the antenna for it. I guess the previous owner paid a few $$ for it as he took it out.
I'm glad that blue-tooth is president now as that was the first investment i made on my car. Next will be the cell phone holder that fits on passenger side by parking brake that looks made for the car as no place is a good place for these huge phones we have now.
Again thanks for help figuring this out.
