'09 RX-8 transmission
Hi all, nice to meet you people,
I am coming to you guys with a questions regarding my 09 RX-8 R3. As you may already know, the 09 RX-8s have some issue with their transmissions, and sadly mine has gone to ****. By that I mean that my 3rd and 4th gears are simply MIA, sometimes I am able to get it into 3rd and it's not poping out, but that's only if I'm really lucky, and 4th is simply gone.
I've looked all of the place for a manual trans for an 09 but I am unable to find one. I did find some all the way in the US, but since I'm in Romania, shipping one is not worth it, as I'm better off getting a scrap R3 from UK and just the trans from that since it's cheaper. I was able to find loads of 6 speed manual trans from previous generations, but I am unable to find anywhere on the internet information about it fitting my R3 or not.
Does anybody know if I will be able to fit a 6 speed trans from a previous gen on my R3? And if Yes, what modifications will I need to make if any. Thanks in advance.

it bolts directly in.
the only issue is the reverse and neutral switch connectors are different. They’re just two-wire 5 Volt connecters though. So you can just cut the connectors off the S2 trans and rewire them onto the S1 trans. Or put any two-wire connector set you want there.
other than it maybe being less durable, the S1 trans is a better match for the S2 4.77 rear gear. 3rd gear especially is a much better ratio.
good luck

Awesome reply, pretty much answered everything I needed to know.
I've just ordered a trans a few minutes ago, I will be with me in about 2 weeks time.
Thank you again, to you and everyone else that replied!

I took the car for a drive around town on Saturday, going from 9000 rpm in 2nd straight to 5th was not much fun lol😊
