2004 6-speed Help

Hello my name is Josh. This is the first forum I've ever been a part of so I'm sorry if creating a new thread or creating a thread here is wrong. I searched the forum(using both the forum search function and Google) but couldn't find a solution to my problem. I just bought a 2004 rx8 6-speed yesterday. It has 107k on the body and a rebuilt motor that has about 35k. I had actually been making payments while the mechanic I was buying it from was still working on it so I've been around the car for a couple months now and it hasn't had any issues starting before. I drove it home just fine but now when I try to start it there is just a quiet hum/buzz. No crank, no start but the radio works, all the lights work, windows everything but it won't start. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Is there a way to test this before I shell out $200-$400 for a new one?

Yes. Take it to a Mazda dealership - or any reputable rotary mechanic - and have them diagnose the problem. And for a lot less then $200 - 400.

Okay I just noticed the security dadh light is flashing. Is there a way to fix that myself or is that something I'd have to go to a dealer/mechanic for?

Flashing rapidly? That's the security system. You need the dealer ( or another key).

Flashing slowly? Check fuses.

Could be a number of things honestly. A faulty clutch switch, a faulty starter, a bad connection at the starter, an immobilizer issue, a seized engine etc. If you are not able to diagnose the issue yourself, you will want to take it to the Mazda dealer or a mechanic that you trust. If you are able to take instructions and have the proper tools we can walk you through some test procedures.
