2004 Mazda RX-8 2nd gear grinding...

Hey rotorheads, I have a '04 6-speed 8 that grinds on 2nd gear. Here's the thing though, when I use it normally, it shifts like butter. But when I redline it on 1st and shift to 2nd, it grinds. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Thanks...

What can I do to fix the problem? I'm still new to my RX-8. I've had it for 3 months now, I'm loving it!

some people report changing trans oil can help some but it really wont fix the issue. you can get it rebuild or buy another trans

So is this a problem one causes or is it like that from factory? Because I read in the manual to not redline 1st gear because the clutch might not work, or something like that.

abusive shifting on a trans over 10 years old. parts wear out/break/fail, its life.

The use of a GL-5 oil can also damage the synchros. You can try fresh trans fluid, like a Redline MT-90 to improve it, it could help. Otherwise invest that money in a known-good trans.
