I wish I could see that car just going off what I have. Dont know why you would even try something so bold as Pour n Go unless you had a coolant leak in the engine?

Got it running.

Car idle is bad, but holds up barely.

It jumps when accelerating or doesn't respond to pressure on the gas padal

Can go a top speed of about 50mph

Cant be redlined.

What do?

Was there a lot of smoke? Can you post a vid of you starting and running it?

No smoke or anything.

Mazda did the deflood procedure at their dealership per standard procedure after i changed the battery terminals and starter.

Luckily car now drives, albeit horribly.

Any ideas how i can fix it to it previous condition.

Im thinking the catalytic converter has something to do with it, car has a rough idle, does not move very fast ( max speed now is about 47mph vs the 115 -120 mph previously). Check engine light comes on and off.

Cant post video, but car makes a very loud what i can only describe as groggy revving sound when reving rpm past 5k.

Bad ignition system. Need new starter, coils, wires and plugs. Check the cat as well though that could be the cause as well. Flooding generally happens when ignition system parts go bad. The flashing CEL indicates a misfire so it adds up to either an ignition system issue or the cat is clogged. Either way it’s likely some engine damage has occurred and you need to compression test this car and see where it stands before you do anything else. Why are you trying to redline it? It’s clearly still broken...

I know, just thought i'd give an update on where i am with thd RX-8 and its issues. Thanks for the all the help.

I can tell you i was very happy driving the car home today, even though the car couldnt go past 50 mph and the acceleration was crap. It felt good being back in an Rx-8, definitely gonna give the rebuild a shot, now that i have the car in my possession and not on some mechanics lot.

It's better to do the swap rather than the rebuild. If you can source a good engine it's far easier than attempting a rebuild. Having to order housings, rotors and rebuild kits is $$ and a lot more work.

PS Glad you enjoy the car. When it's working right it's perfect.

If you can source an engine and tear both down it’s better. Sometimes housings and rotors need to be swapped. Make sure you buy an identical engine for the right series.

I definitely want to know if there is still any warrantys on the 04 RX-8s, becuase after i got my car in the driveway, and got in it this morning to try and give it a start up to try and seafoam it, it wouldnt start, (obviously blown apex seal) but just wondering if there is any warranty out there for a 112k 04 rx8.

Anybody in central nj, experienced with rotary engines i am willing to sell the car to you for $2500 as the $7,000 price for the new engine is daunting at best.

Woah there tiger. Could be something easy. Did you ever compression test this car? That's the only really way to know for sure if you blew a seal. Could just be a bad ignition system, clogged cat or the engine is flooded. Look up RX8 deflood procedure and try that first before you write off that beauty.

[QUOTE=Loki;4895411]Also, since all this happened some time ago, what is the current situation? Does it start at all? Was the reservoir actually cracked? Is there coolant..

Hey Guys!

GOOD NEWS: was able to get my RX-8 started again and managed to drive it around a little bit!

BAD NEWS: car is not revving smoothly up to the 9,000 rpm limit without ALOT of noise and power drain.

Side Note: Car is able to maintain a stable idle with a fully charged battery.

Questions:

1. Could it be that my catalytic converter is causing the problem. ( i went to a mazda mechanic in may and he said it was causing the car to run "lean")

2. Could Sea-foaming fix the issue?

3. HAS ANYONE HAD THE EXACT SAME THING OCCUR TO THEM AND WERE ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION?

In all honesty it could just be a clogged cat. You should remove it and check it to see if there are broken pieces or obvious clogging.

Seafoam is just to clear the engine carbon deposits. It would not help if the issue is your cat or your ignition system.

I have had this exact problem on two of the RX8s I've owned. Both bought as non runners. Years later both still on the road as daily drivers.

Keep in mind, the cheaper replacement cats like Magnaflow wont work for very long. Can actually cause the car to run lean. Best option is to run a catless midpipe and just have a cheap cat swapped in for emissions testing.

By ignition harness do you mean the main wiring harness or new spark plug wires? I dont think it's necessary to change out that harness just yet, just get a set of NGK spark plug wires. Good luck!
